dude, I am the biggest Chiefs fan on this board (that I know of). I've watched every KC game over the last 8 years. Matt Cassel is a freaking donk. You are either ignorant or a petulant troll. There isnt one single person on the planet that would agree with you. Not Charlie Weiss, not Todd Haley, not Scott Pioli, nor Bellicheck or Josh McDaniels. Matt Cassel knows this is bull****. Every single Kansas City resident, fan, employee and player would take Schaub over Cassel. I would wager that at least 25 teams in the leauge would take Schaub over their current QB. If Kansas City had Matt Schaub, they would be serious Superbowl contenders. the rest of your slop is easily disectable as well. You dont have a freakin clue what you are talking about.
A truly excellent post - one that covered a lot of the things that concerned me. I would like to reiterate what Emjohn has said to all of the folks here who want to let this team off the hook by rationalizing away this pathetic performance: They aren't a good enough football team to squander away games in this manner. Everybody here knew that the Cows were playing to save their season - everyone it seems but the the guys with the red, white & blue cows on their helmets. To come out an play such an uninspired game is inexcusable and unacceptable PERIOD. Kubiak had better put a stop to this now or else they are going to have to struggle to be an 8-win team. He got his contract extension - now it's time for him to demonstrate he was deserving.
As I Cowboys fan I was pleased with the way Dallas played today. I think they had about 40 yards more of rushing (I think all Felix Jones) that was wiped out because of penalties. So I thought they ran like they needed to and then executed their game plan. Roy Williams had a decent game but Kareem Jackson just struggled and I really hate Roy and this just prolongs his career in our starting lineup. People can bash Tony Romo all they want, but he has been pretty good this season. He just needs to minimize turnovers and stay accurate. The Cowboys O-Line is really coming around, hopefully Kosier is ok. We switched over to NFL redzone in the 4th quarter. It is pretty cool and worth buying. Anyway, still don't know if Dallas will make the playoffs, but they played much better.
Haven't read through the entire thread (and I feel emjohn covered a lot of points I wanted to make) but here are somethings that infuriated me. 1) Playcalling, playcalling, playcalling. Texans were terribly predictable on offense and pretty damn vanilla. I understand Kubiak's need to establish the team as a run first offense, but guess what? That's not who they are. I think by now everyone (should, at least) realizes that the strength of the team is more in the passing game than in the running game. Even with the emergence of Foster, the team's identity is still found in the passing game. And Chicago had a ton of success last week against the Boys dinking and dunking across the middle on short slants, screens, etc. Yet the Texans turn their noses up at that nugget of info and decide that they're going to "impose our will on them"? Where does that arrogance come from? We are by no means an elite team that can impose their will running the ball at will. It worked against Indy, but we had to resort to overtime and a superman-esque grab from Dre to even have a shot at winning. Be more adaptable in your system, Kubes! 2) Intensity. There was none. No sense of urgency. In fact, what was pretty damn telling was at the end of the first quarter, the team was lined up, had an opportunity to get one last play in before the quarter ended...but the whistles blew and Schaub looked up confused as to what happened. No sense of urgency, no sense of time, no intensity. Pollard was bringing it every single play but what someone pointed out is apt: when you're backing your words with solid play, then it comes off as "he's such a badass." Take those same words and have the other team run all over you, then it doesn't come off nearly as badass. 3) Defense. Everyone wants to pile on Kareem Jacksowned, and that's cool. But what I don't understand is the beating the front 7 took today. On almost every single running play, the Texans were sticking to Cowboys' linemen and first contact with the runner didn't happen until at least 3 yards downfield. No one was shedding blockers: Mario had a terrible game, didn't impact the game at all, IMO. Antonio Smith was probably the best DL on the Texans' side of things and he too played a very mediocre game. And the delayed handoff/draw...good lord, they're just NEVER going to catch onto that, are they?
Pretty good points overall, especially the lack of intensity. I would disagree with the run calling though. I thought we were solid running the ball and it helped up. My problem was in the red zone. A play action screen to Vonta would have been pretty effective and kept them on their toes. In the end, we played horribly, but take away the field stumbles (Andre's and Kareem's) and we may be looking at an entirely different game. The biggest concern now is to shore up the secondary. If we can't do that we'll be in trouble. This loss can help us by waking the team up. Let's take care of Oakland now.
Was there really movement on the O-line? Being at the game, the replay I saw I couldn't really see anything and thought Antonio was just pleading an empty case.. The fact that it was called offsides had me absolutely livid of course but it looked about right to me, even tho Antonio looked convincingly adamant about being drawn off
I think the offense needs to get back to its "west coast" roots and re-establish the quick slants, outs, and high percentage completion plays. Not "dink and dunk"... but at the same time, not have Schaub drop back and wait for plays to develop that may never do (or he gets sacked waiting for them). The offense never really got in a rhythm today. Whether it was giving Slaton the ball (when Foster was getting a breather), to attempting to get a 20 yard pass completion on a 3rd and 3.... which resulted in a coverage sack, to the red zone stalls.... there were COUNTLESS opportunities that they had a chance to put the Cowboys away. The key is to getting the high percentage passing routes back. They have a reliable ground game now. Save the deep routes for the play-action passes, or against teams that don't have much of a pass rush (like the Texans... but I'll save that post for another day).
THe o-lineman flinched. It was subtle, but he did do it... should have been a penalty on Dallas. The ref should have realized that when that many Texans move across, something induced them.
I put more on Wilson than on Kareem. Easily actually. Kareem had like three bad plays this game. Wilson drops game changing interceptions and sucks at coverage. I'd rather see what Troy Nolan or Barber can do back there.
You must have been watching a different game because he was burned every time Romo even looked in his direction. He made absolutely no positive plays. The guy was atrocious.
Just an FYI for everyone calling for KJ to be benched, cut, and banished from the league.. Kyle Wilson (ya know, that other rookie CB that most felt we shoulda drafted instead) has also been getting repeatedly targeted, picked on, and getting completions against tonight and all season as well. So chill out, it happens.. rookie CBs will get tested and they will get burned
I am deeply disappointed with the loss today and am beginning to wonder if this team will EVER turn the corner. It seems like every time the Texans have an opportunity to take the bull by the horns and proclaim to the league, "We have arrived," they come out flat. The pregame show mentioned something about how the goal for the team this week was to learn how to "manage success." Well, congrats, Texans, you get an "F" on that one. Last year, I was firmly entrenched in the "Fire Kubiak" camp. This year, I'm willing to give him several games to prove to me that I was wrong about him. Well, today did not help his cause at all. Once again, Kubiak failed to have his team motivated and prepared to play, and once again, Kubiak and his coaches called an uninspired and predictable game. I've seen and heard this song and dance before, and it's flat-out unacceptable. I could have somewhat stomached losing to the Cowboys if we had actually played a competitive game. But we got manhandled. By an 0-2 team. At home. Against an in-state rival. Worst of all, now we get to hear jackass Cowboys fans run their mouths for 4 more years. Ugh. What a terrible sports weekend.
I saw Kareem slip on one play and I saw him get faked out by Roy Williams on another. He didn't get burned too many times and he had no help over the top from Wilson. Everywhere I've looked, I've seen people saying Wilson is the one that needs to be replaced, not a ROOKIE CB in Kareem Jackson. Troy Nolan and Barber can do no worse than Wilson is doing out there. Dude has no hands either. That pick-six he dropped would have tied the game at 10.
Pollard was the one behind Jackson for most of the game, not Wilson. Pollard had a number of plays where he had to cover for Jackson because he got beat over the top. A safety can only do so much if a corner is beat on every single play.
You don't remember Roy Williams' TD against McCain? Hell, McCain went and started yelling at Wilson for not helping him over the top. Wilson took a bad angle at Roy and was also late getting there. We need to replace Wilson ASAP.
