Wait, I'm confused. What is Portland giving up? Nothing? So they are just getting Pavlovic for free?

Rockets announce Courtney Lee S&T. In addition to the previously-reported players, Houston receives the rights to Jon Diebler from Portland.

We get the Charlotte pick, which I'm assuming was the biggest factor in our willingness to do the deal. Here's the official release.

    OFFICIAL:

[rquoter]HOUSTON - Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey announced today that the team has agreed to a sign-and-trade with guard/forward Courtney Lee, which will send him to the Boston Celtics as part of a three-team trade. The Rockets will receive from Boston a Charlotte Bobcats second-round draft pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, forward JaJuan Johnson, guard E’Twaun Moore and forward/center Sean Williams. The pick was previously acquired by Boston via Oklahoma City. Houston also acquires the rights to guard Jon Diebler from Portland. Boston completes the deal by agreeing to a sign-and-trade with guard/forward Sasha Pavlovic, which sends him to the Trail Blazers.[/rquoter]

i'm still assuming we have that Bobcats' pick because that was the point of doing the trade. But i am curious about this Jon Diebler. Is his contract guaranteed? Are we planning on keeping him? He's one of the most efficient scorers in NCAA history and had a great year in Greece last year. Also, I like 6'6" shooting guards.

The Blazers don't want Pavlovic. They are getting a second round pick to help to facilitate this trade by taking on Pavlovic who's contract will be paid by Boston.

Rockets got Diebler's draft rights. He's a second round pick who does not currently play in the NBA, so he does not count against the cap. His situation is just like that of Maarty Leunen.

Diebler was a second-round pick a year ago and played overseas, so we acquired his rights. He's not under contract right now. I watched him a lot in college at OSU - he's basically a bomber at this level. So-so athleticism, decent size, can't really create off the dribble... but he is one hell of a shooter from deep. Best case scenario is Kyle Korver, if everything went right. He's a longshot to make the roster, but his one elite skill (shooting) is good enough that he has a puncher's chance to be a rotation player. Worth monitoring.

This team could use a guy like Diebler .. Rockets don't really have a guy that can consistently hit a 3 ... Maybe Lamb but jury still out there.

That video I posted above was pretty pathetic. But I cant find much else of him in Greece. Here he is in college where he set the OSU school record with 10-straight 3-pointers.
