Our secondary can be average... it doesn't have to be spectacular. Its our PASS RUSH that will be the difference-maker this year. Last year, no pass rush + mediocre secondary = helpless. This year, good pass rush + average secondary = stops + turnovers.
I don't think the secondary looked real good. JJ was getting beat a few times, but Collins couldn't make the pass. He did have one nice breakup where he slapped the ball down when KC made a great throw. However this secondary is so much better than whatever we had last year.
I think we'll start the season at worst 9-2 with the loses coming against Ravens and Steelers. We have an inkling of a defense, the Saints are much worse at D than we are and offensively they aren't much better, could be even or possible worse.
Mario looked good rushing the passer. Even though these were not the "real Colts" it was good the Texans d got to play a full game at full speed against 1st teamers (except QB) to help them all familiarize themselves with this scheme even more.
Cushing seemed to be in on a number of plays. I don't know what his official stats were, but my impression of his return was positive. What about injuries, Ward was hurt for one.
yep, Ward banged up, but Arian should be ready, and hay..just 24 yards behind Mr. 10 million dollar plus RB, Chris Johnson - fancy that. . .
Well Mario better surprise me next Sunday because getting two sacks rushing against Dallas Clark one on one should be easy. Great showing by evryone though
Great win, those of you downplaying like it means nothing will probably never be pleased. A win against a division foe is always huge, I don't care who it is. This defense is much further along than I expected, can't wait for next week's game!
It wasn't just the sacks. Several QB hurries throughout the game. Had a couple of run stops as well. And its the scheme that eventually will allow Mario to be matched up against other team's TE's and RB's. Sometimes, you just can't account for everybody. As soon as they commit blockers to Mario, Watt and Smith will go wild. Finally, what did Dwight Freeney do today? Absolutely nothing... Brown held him in heck, and the Texans offense was geared to avoid letting him pin his ears back and attack Schaub.
Besides Mario, Shuan Cody played better than expected, Cushing, kinda did as well- not sure why I didn't think Cushing wouldn't be involved.. I now expect Watt, and Antonio to continue to be consistent, GQ playing nice at safety has been an expectation and he showed that...I want to see Reed play more, he may supplant Barwin before too long.
Great game, great to see the D make plays, great to see our offense still be explosive (in the first half). Hoping that the second half was just more the team taking the foot off the pedal than anything else. Nice way to start the season.
Good win against a lousy opponent, but we dominated them in the 1st half, and none of our division rivals should give us too much trouble from the way we looked and they looked today. This is the year guys
Edit This is going to be a very scary team, The defense still has its flaws, but most will we worked out by week 5. The Secondary has the energy, just needs to develop better timing. But overall we can easily be a top 10 defense in this league The offense was great, we could of easily scored 50 points if it was a competitive game, I said in the Record Prediction thread that we will finish 13-3.
You see this was the same confidence we had last season after week 1. You got to Wait couple games before we see what kind of team the Texans really are.
This team is vastly superior to last years team. Its not even close...this defense has been doing things in practice, in preseason, and in the opener, that they only dreamed of doing last season. This season is different.
bad news from today @profootballtalk is reporting... "Kevin Walter has broken shoulder and is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks, per league source."
