this video of peyton going down and not letting mario hit him is a great example of why he has been able to stay at the top of his game for so long. I hope schaub learns how to do that .. by diving forward manning 1)saved himself from gettting hit 2) was down moving forward vs going backwards had he been sacked 3) who knows whats going to happen when u get hit esp when the def players are taught to go for the ball, so he avoids all likelyhood of getting a turnover.. smart..... very smart
I usually don't care about poorly written articles (I still read the Chronicle everyday), but this one is so bad I had to share. It's as if the guy wrote the article near the end of last season. NFL Season Preview – AFC South: Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson Seek Respect for Texans In 2010 Hoping to build off of the first winning season in franchise history, this year’s Texans team appears to be the most complete yet. Houston finally possesses all of the pieces to field a truly elite offense and will look to continue to be one of the most potent passing attacks after leading the league in passing in 2009. In the past, no one questioned the team’s talent level, at least on the offensive side. The question has always been, “Who will stay healthy, and for how long?” QB Matt Schaub and all-pro wideout Andre Johnson are both likely to go down with an injury. While both were able to start all 16 games last year, they each have a considerable injury history. Running backs Steve Slaton (turf toe) and Ben Tate (broken ankle) are already banged up, with Slaton questionable for week one and Tate out 4-6 weeks following surgery. If Slaton is unable to play, second year back Arian Foster would be the starter with Derrick Ward in the backup role. Click here if you want to continue reading this garbage
Lol, what? Theyre both likely to go down with injuries? WTF kind of garbage is that??? Schaub's injuries have been from cheap hits...and Andre has played in 102 out of a possible 112 games.
Well, like the author says: both were able to start all 16 games last year It's only natural to assume they will both get injured this year....since they both started all games last year..........
This is a pretty good read about Manning discussing the Texans http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/7192517.html

Guess he doesn't know of Foster...and Tate's situation. EDIT: 1 page said it was added 48min ago....another saying it's from the 30th.
Manning is saying all the right things (as usual), but he does that so much with us that it almost seems patronizing. I don't think it is, but it just seems that way, since the guy basically owns us. I'd almost rather him come out and say "yeah, just go ahead and pencil in another 'W' this week, guys..." I know he never will, but I wish he would. I'm not a Manning fan at all, but I do think it's kind of silly to rag on the guy for only winning one Superbowl. Those things are hard to win! The Hall of Fame is FULL of great players who have never won a single one. That would be like ragging on Hakeem for only winning 2 championships when Bill Russell won 11.
Found this funny.... @bruce_arthur: Tom Brady was in a car accident. I presume Bernard Pollard was driving the other car.
Yeah everything always seems so tongue in cheek with him, I guess it's cause I saw him on so many commercials since they won. The only time he looks serious is when they're losing/lost.
last time bernard pollard open a season playing against a QB who everyone thought was top 3 if not the best qb in the game .. he knocked him out for the year.... first play on defense, well the second play (since first play will prob be a run) should be pollard coming up the middle on a blitz, just to let manning know the qb killer is on the prowl
I posted this in the season predictions thread, but I figured I would post it here too since, you know, it's relevant to people's interests. Tom Jackson predicts Super Bowl for Texans
By John Clayton Gary Kubiak's Texans must beat Colts History aside, Houston has elements needed to break Indianapolis' stranglehold For eight years, the Texans tried to climb out of the chaos of expansion and into the joys of being a winning team. In 2009, quarterback Matt Schaub threw for 4,770 yards and the Titans finally went 9-7. But if the Texans are going to take the next step and be a serious playoff contender, they have to start establishing home-field advantage against teams in the AFC South, starting with the Colts. In the past three seasons, the Texans have gone 4-14 in divisional play. Last year, they went 1-5, forcing them to go 8-2 in the non-divisional games. To repeat that and expect to go 8-2 against the rest of the league will almost be impossible, particularly considering the Texans are playing the league's toughest schedule. They need to win the home games at the very least. This Sunday, the Texans highlight First And 10 because they have their chance. They catch Peyton Manning when he might be a little out of his comfort zone. Unless Charlie Johnson heals quickly from a foot injury that has sidelined him for five weeks, Manning might have to go into the opener with undrafted rookie left tackle Jeff Linkenbach starting. Tony Ugoh, for whom the Colts traded a first-round pick to be the left tackle of the future, was waived Wednesday. The left tackle has to keep defensive end Mario Williams away from Manning. Manning might not be at the total comfort level with the location of umpire Chad Brown, who will work with Ed Hochuli's crew in this game. Brown is a longtime umpire known for standing on the defensive line and absorbing plenty of hits through the years. For safety reasons, the umpire has been moved behind the offense, which slows down no-huddle attacks. It might take weeks before the league figures out the proper mechanics of the umpire spotting the ball and getting into his position. This could infringe on Manning's play-calling in the no-huddle, but this subject is such a point of discussion in the league office that the crew will do its best to make things work. But more eyes will be on coach Gary Kubiak and his Texans. The franchise is 1-15 lifetime against the Colts. If the Texans go 1-16 by losing this game, they will be chasing Manning and the Colts all season knowing their best hope is to make the playoffs as a wild card. It's one of the biggest must-win games of the season. The Texans must win -- or else. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&page=1stand10/10week01
