I just hope we dont make snap judgements against them after game one... bc one, they will get better as the season wears on and two, a lot of good secondaries look bad against peyton especially early in the season. It seems like every year colts are off to a good start.
well if texans get blown out snap judgements will be made all over the place. But you're right in that this game wont define these 2 guys as pros.
I didn't realize than Glover Quin did not allow a single touchdown last season with 80 passes thrown his way
he had a heck of a year once he got the starting job..it just went under the radar with Mario, Cush, Demeco and Pollard getting all the attention
i wonder who picks up wayne in week one .. or if they are just gonna stay on their side and cover who ever lines up against them
I have never understood this lazy defensive philosophy. Why allow the offense to pick and choose the individual matchups? Any stud weapon will have been effective late against us when they can literally CHOOSE the weakest defensive link to line up across. It's no wonder we've struggled late in games historically. For God's sake, take GQ and stick him on the best receiver they have...particularly in crucial situations. Same applied for Aaron Glenn and pre-douchery status Dunta Robinson.
I think the Texans can take this game. Seriously A couple of hits on Peyton . . . and his decision making is not *as* great Rocket River
Yeah, I've never understood this. It makes no sense not to put your best corner on their best receiver.
Well, I never called them weak - just young. I think Quin's play was overshadowed by the losing streak that killed our playoff hopes in the middle of the season last year. And I can't wait to see what Jackson can do. For the record, I DO agree with our "trial by fire" philosophy of starting Jackson. There is no better way for a young player to get better than to get him out there and let him start learning from his mistakes. For what it's worth, I know they've been purposefully having him (try to) cover AJ during practice, so that surely can't hurt!
I wasn't meaning to single you out, I had just read a few posts saying Peyton would pick apart our rookie CB and inexperienced one (GQ) -- just making the point that they might not be as bad as people think. I was actually looking for some info on Kareem.. I haven't seen anything about how he's progressed through the preseason? I read the article about him matching up with Andre and how they believed he was the most game-ready CB in the draft class.. but there hasn't been anything else about this guy lately. Has anyone been able to get a good look at him in the preseason snaps he's played?
i watching him very close in his first preseason game against the saints. After a few big runs the saints tried to go at him with a stop and go route...kareem didnt bite on it for a second and the pass was incomplete. It's only one play but he showed a lot of maturity. IN the other games, i thought he looked good although he did get a few passes caught on him. A couple he did slip on the turf though
It makes sense if you are reliant on a zone defense with a very high IQ secondary (safeties in particular). The Richard Smith defense got clowned repeatedly for huge numbers because of this poor fitting philosophy. They did much better last year, and I don't believe (could be wrong) that they chain themselves to it like Smith did.
We trotted out Reeves and Bennett two seasons ago to start the season. GQ & K Jack will be fine. Just got to pressure the QB.
I want to see GQ get a pick this season. For gods sake, just ONE PICK PLEASE Not worried about Kareem whatsoever, he looked NFL ready during the preseason.
