Seems like you're trying pretty hard to delegitimize the Jets. In fact, you go so far as to claim that how good/bad the Jets were had zero impact on the outcome of the game. Ignorance, thy name is rhino.
Peyton hikes the ball too early and trips and sprains his ankle running into the ref in the backfield. Texans win. But seriously...the team has got to overcome their mediocrity demons at some point. They have all the tools to be a good team. Both teams come out strong, but the Texans, with the home crowd willing it, pull even and get the go ahead on a Rackers field goal.
The Jets were not a great team last year. They should have been 7-9 or 8-8. Do you not remember the two gift victories they were given at the end of the season last year. Plus the Jets were bad at the beginning of the season. They got better as the season wore on, and played well their first two playoff games.
This Texans team is the best I've seen in years... if they can get past losing Brian Cushing for 4 games... I think we'll be pretty damn good. Now if the Texans can just build some confidence and really start to establish that mental edge this season we'll make the playoffs this year and contend the next.
Sounds a lot like the Texans, too. Although the Jets seemed to come out of the gate a lot stronger, and fall off at the halfway point when Suckchez when into full fail mode. (3 straight wins to open the year is not "bad at the beginning of the season"... losing 6 of 7 in the middle of the year is what sank them) I have zero problem referring to them as the 2nd best team in the AFC. Hell, they might've gone to the Superbowl if not for a couple of injuries in the 2nd half... they lost their running game and a starting CB... went totally one dimensional... and Manning ate their blitz scheme for dinner... that's when they blew their lead.
****, I just realized the Broncos are playing at the same time, that means it won't be on TV here. I hope there is an online link for me to watch it on.
I'm really nervous about this game. It could go a LONG ways towards setting the tone for the rest of the season, either good or bad.
But the Jets weren't great. They were good, but like most borderline playoff teams, they had plenty of flaws. The result is that they were 4-6 after 10 games. Other teams were clearly not THAT mystified by them. Saying they were not the best team in the AFC is not the same as as saying they weren't good. You were the one that made the claim that a 9-7 team that was the 6th seed and got 2 free wins was "arguably the best team in the AFC." It sounds more like you're trying to overhype the Jets to justify the Texans' loss.
New coach, rookie QB, obviously they went through some bad games, as any team with those two things working against them would. Texans were ill-prepared in the beginning of the season, that much was obvious through week 3, but in retrospect, the Jets were a much better team than we, and everyone else, gave them credit for in week 1. Just trying to balance out rhino's "blame everything on the Texans" routine. Disagree if you want, but they got to the AFC title game for a reason. I've admitted the Texans could've done a better job. Waiting on rhino to admit the Jets were good enough to affect the outcome of the game.
It's 2010. 2009 and all other season openers are irrelevant (except 2002, of course). This ain't your daddy's Texans.
Been waiting 8 months for this thread, and the next 5 days are gonna be the toughest wait yet. GO TEXANS
Obviously I am biased, but I figure I might as well try and start this season off trying to be civil. I think the Texans will keep it close/have the lead in the 1st half, but Manning will have the Colts in the drivers seat all 2nd half and Texans lose by 10. Good luck Texans this season, I still don't think the team is good enough to make the playoffs, but this is your chance to prove me wrong.
Just because I blame anything on the Texans doesn't mean I blame them for everything. You blame them for absolutely nothing.......ever. You portray them as the model NFL franchise, which is delusional. There is a reason why this team has not done a whole lot in the decade they have existed. If they were half as competent as you think they are, they would be a perennial contender.
The funny thing about this is that Im not going to be suprised when we come out and stomp'em. We will get in Manning's face and really frustrate him. Not that I think we are the better team, Manning is clearly the cream of the crop in the NFL, but this game is at home and we are coming out fired up. Arian will have a solid game as will Jacoby. Missing Cushing will hurt but we seem much deeper on the front 7. With Shaub and Andre firing on all cylinders, I think this will be an eye opener to most. Not me! Texans 34 Colts 17
To quote Walter, "Donny you're out of your element!" The Jets were not great, I'm not sure if you watched them or just the highlights and talking heads on Disney Sports. They were good, but nowhere near great. And yes the Texans did come out flat against them in the opener. How the hell else would they play every other game tough for the rest of the year? I will say that Rex's defense has given the trouble before, but there was no reason to make sanchez look like a legend out there. I swear this conversation took place before. I tell you what, lets see what happens this year when they play. Back on track, I think the Texans will be ready for this game. The colts have been beatable the last couple of years and the Texans know that. I imagine there is no team they want to beat more. It should be a good game, but I think the Texans come out trying to set the tone and win finally. HOU 27 IND 17.
I'm excited to see OD back in action. This is going to be a nerve-racking game. I hope we can pull it out.
