Hmm, hope they show it on the highlights... cause I could've sworn Harrison was about a half-yard short when he caught the ball. (Yes, he broke off the route past the marker, but when he caught it I think he was just short.) In the end, though, it wouldn't have mattered -- the Colts would've gone for fourth and inches, like any reasonable team would, and made it. Their willingness to take chances, and our reluctance, is the difference thus far. What makes it even more bizarre is that Kubiak took too many chances against Tennessee... I really can't get a read on how he thinks at all.
There's no legitimate reason, especially against a superior offense like the Colts, to ever not go for fourth and inches. I know it's the ultra-conservative NFL where any outside the box thinking is frowned upon, but from a statistical standpoint, it's an easy call to go for it. Especially considering the Colts' offense and the Texans' defense.
Kubiak went for like 19 fourth down the first 2 games. Now they're taking it conservative. At least Kubiak is learning?
Its not that hard to figure him out... if Kubiak's 4th and inches are where the Colts had them, he'd porbably go for them. Of course, we've been unable to rush the ball thus-far against one of the worst run-defenses in the league... so perhaps that speaks more about the capability of this team to execute period. Sage starting to look more comfortable... lets stretch them downfield.
Okay... and if they don't, there has to be reasons... like the team isn't good enough. If you're mad that they're not good enough to be a year-in/year-out playoff team at this point, you might as well stop watching them. And, there are plenty of reasons why this team isn't good enough yet... but when people talk about them, they sound like excuses... which apparently we can't do anymore in year 7.
a guy looks good for 5 passes and he's the new QB. great. schaub's great game last week does nothing for him. smart.
The problem with his fourth down gambles the first two games (except the Pittsburgh one, where he was just screwed twice on the spot) was that they all came from three and four yards out. At that point, punting or kicking is very reasonable, especially if you have guaranteed points. If you can't make a foot on a given play, you don't deserve to win. I'm perfectly content with losing a game if our offense can't do that.
Again, another person pointing out the "uniqueness" of them having to play the entire season with the roof open. If its such a big deal.... WHY DID THEY BUILD A RETRACTABLE ROOF in the first place? Also, the weather only gets better/cooler as the season goes on... so it shouldn't be that big of a deal by the 4th or so home game.
Sage is better for this team than Schaub how come when Sage comes in Andre Johnson magically gets the ball a lot more often? coincidence?
you know how this goes. it's smart statistically, but none of the teams (even the Colts against us today) would have gone for it on their own 30. not something to complain about and call kubiak/staff cowards about..
I forgot to put a sarcastic smiley on that. I agree, hard to get a read on what Kubiak's trying to do. I think probably early in the game dont take chances putting yourselves in a bigger hole (still conservative thinking). But now that they're in as usual comeback mode they'll start going for it
I think after not getting the ball to Andre at all last week, whoever was playing this week was definitely gonna be forced to throw it to him (by design)
