Just came here to post it. Glad they no longer plan on keeping it closed every single game. Really not sure why it's been closed for all the college games as well.
Taxpayers paid the bill. In retrospect, this should have been a fixed roof. It's so rarely used, it's ridiculous. And it would have saved a boatload of money.
Hasn't really made a difference in their play. When the roof has been opened over the Kubiak era, they have certainly not played worse. Also, if Kansas City and Seattle can have the "loudest" stadiums in the world, with both of them being "open", Reliant can do just fine as well.
What are you arguing about? It's louder when it's closed. It helps the defense. It helps the fans feel more involved.
They are arguing that the roof should have been fixed and not retractable. Having a retractable roof instead of a fixed roof cost the taxpayers millions of dollars. If they were going to keep it closed for: 1. Weather 2. Louder environment than they should not have had a retractable roof in the first place.
Well obviously, reliant host other events as well. The complaint was why am I paying tax dollars toward such and such. I find this more of a "I'm bored, I want to b**** about nothing".
Does it really? Has it really been proven to be louder when closed? Has it really been proven that it helps the defense? The only thing for certain is that when its open, a lot of people b**** about sitting directly under the sun (for the half of the stadium that gets it during noon games). I'm for the retractable roof being opened as much as possible, especially when the weather is nice in Houston from October thru Decemeber. I'm not buying that the open roof is significantly less of a home field advantage... and open air stadiums in Kansas City and Seattle help prove that. Originally, the roof was to be open as much as possible for Texans games, and closed to incorporate all the other events.
I can't even argue if you asked me if it helps or not. I played college ball, it affects the players. Silent cadence at times gives the defense a jump on the offense. I'm assuming you have no history with competitive sporting events involving large crowds?
I'm guessing it will only be open because its a night game, and no chance of fans b****ing about the sun.
Yes, crowd noise affects the players... but nobody has studied the decibel difference in a closed Reliant vs. an open Reliant. And regardless, the closed Reliant is not as intimidating as the open Seattle or the open Kansas City.
