Yeah because making a coaching change in the middle of the season always works. No, it's just not the right time IMO. Let the season play out, hopefully these coaches make the necessary adjustments and the players make plays. If not, heads should roll in the offseason.
Continuing my tradition of adding a receiver (if available) to my fantasy team the week his team plays the Texans......I added McCluster a few days ago. Just a way to hedge my emotions while watching the game.
LOL, Bowe was unavailable. I thought about picking up Moeaki and Cassel since Vick is still hurt, but I'm sticking with Orton and Keller (my 2 best FA pickups of the season).
i'm not usually one to hedge my bets but i'm tempted to bet the chiefs in the hopes i'll lose some money
I heard an interview yesterday with a sports radio talk show host in Kansas City. They guy was absolutely ripping Matt Cassel, saying that past Delhomme/Wallace/McCoy in Cleveland and Moore/Clausen in Carolina, Kansas City has the worst QB situation in the NFL. And that in some ways it was worse because they're more married to Cassel than those teams are to their QBs. He called Cassel a horrible decision maker and that if his first read isn't open, he doesn't know what to do next. From the way he was talking, if the Texans can't have a decent pass D against the Chiefs, there's absolutely no hope they'll get any better for the rest of the season. He thought the Texans secondary, as awful as it is, is better than the Chiefs passing offense. He was also very complimentary of cornerback Brandon Flowers and said that the only player playing his position better was Clay Matthews. Flowers has been targeted 31 times and has given up 81 yards. That's 2.6 yards per attempt. By comparison, Revis gave up 3.6 yards per attempt last season.
Man I hope you right, but we are DEAD LAST in defense! It's getting hard for me to watch, but I'm a die hard Houston everything fan so I always want them to do well. I do know this though- something needs to change.
completely depends on THIS game. if we lose because the pass defense can't stop Cassel and the Chiefs, then it's time for Bob to sack up and make a change. he has a fan base to be accountable to, ultimately.
Last i checked the Texans are in 1st place in the division...no? Have they ever in their history been in this position after week 5? either way, I cant imagine that firing anyone is on McNairs radar at this point. BTW...you can chalk that last loss up to our old friend Sage....he got one of the game balls for helping prepare the defense....fact. They knew what was coming at least 75% of the time
Good point. But the defense isn't just bad...it's historically bad. As in worst pass defense statistically since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. You're probably right. It doesn't matter how bad they get..even if they lose...they likely won't fire anyone or making any changes whatsoever. I should know that by now. As for the Sage stuff..entirely overrated. Sage hasn't been on this team in 2 seasons. If we're plain and vanilla enough that a QB who hasn't taken a snap with us in 2 seasons can share information leading to absolute domination, then that's on us. Teams play against former players all the time. It shouldn't look like that.
Its not as overrated as you might think...at least not in this particular case. I spoke to him after the game and he was pretty surprised how "plain and vanilla" we were after all that time...so much so that it enabled him to basically coach the defense that week in practice.
like i said..that's on the Texans, then. because teams face former players ALL THE TIME. i'm not saying it wasn't impactful. i'm saying that's more of a discredit to the Texans coaching staff then it is a feather in the cap of Sage.
This. People switch teams in the NFL all the time. It never seems to have the whole "information sharing" effect. Hell, even when coaches switch teams you don't see that kind of "insider knowledge" affecting the game. If Sage Rosenfels brought down the Texan war machine, then he is either a f***ing genius and due for a head coaching job the MOMENT he retires, or Kubiak/Dennison are easier to read than a Dr. Seuss book.
right...because WE BEAT THE GUY WHO CALLED PLAYS FOR US LAST SEASON with nearly 500 yards in the air. was he incapable of sharing that information with the Redskins defense? it just seems too simplistic.
I understand what you guys are saying.....guys switch teams all the time. I just know that in this case, the Giants were extremely well prepared and Sage had a big hand in it. He got a game ball and the defensive coaches all took him out to dinner. Maybe he got lucky....maybe the Texans are that easy to read...either way, it worked
if sage's influence had this big an impact then we have a gimmicky offense. remember the run-and-shoot and how the really good teams always figured it out. gimme earl campbell and luv ya blue.
Part of me agrees with you here. If we win on Sunday (and we really should), we'll be 4-2 at the bye-week. Would we all have taken that at the beginning of the season? Hell yes. But the cynic in me says we've really haven't played well since Game 1. We were a McNabb overthrow away from losing Game 2 in regulation and the Raiders are AWFUL and we still couldn't put them away until late in the 4th. So when you think about it, we are literally 1 McNabb overthrow away from being in last place in our division right now. Being in a 4 way tie for 1st place with our historically bad defense doesn't exactly give me a lot of comfort for the rest of the season. I don't know, his team and it's 3-2 record just seems like a big house of cards right now.
