Defensive backs know that he is better underneath and are probably taking that away from him. He needs to find other ways to get open or he is just a useless out there.

I'm not talking about just up top, I'm talking about all over the field. Every time I see him he is covered, he seems like he is having a very difficult time creating separation.

Kinda agree with you, but I think this goes back to my argument earlier about our passing game not being as well-schemed this year as it was under Kubiak/Baby Shan. Last year, with the same personnel, guys were getting open and running free. This year, not so much.

I think we've gone away from the picks/rubs that worked well last year and are going to more quick slants, comebacks, etc. These routes require you to beat your man one-on-one whereas the other combination routes allow traffic and confusion to spring people open. No one ever said we have superior talent at WR, we just had guys that could execute their routes with precision. This year, we've taken away a great security blanket in David Anderson, and replaced him with an inconsistent route runner with shaky hands. We're also limiting with KW can do by asking him to do something he's not equipped to handle. Guys like KW are tacticians, so let them work their craft and stop asking them to out talent someone.

Just my $0.02 from watching the guys play this year.

I agree. They have completely abandoned the more complicated and big plays. I feel like Schaub was hitting Jacoby over the top for a big gain at least once a game last year and I almost never see it anymore.

It should be noted that KW drew two PI/illegal contact calls after being held like crazy by the DBs.

It might be scheme, or it might be Andre Johnson being awesome last year and injured this year.

It also might be Shaub is just not as good as his career results during a huge contract year.

It's definitely scheme imo. Bootlegs for instance were used to PERFECTION last season, they were amazing with them. This year, I cringe every time I see one developing because they run them far too often and usually with only one receiver (Andre), so if he isn't open, the play is essentially dead.

It's just incredible how we can go from such an amazing passing offense and terrible run offense in one year to the league's best run O (per carry) and a mediocre passing game the next.

I certainly understand the animosity – but are people honestly expecting Kubiak to be fired mid-season? First and foremost, the team is 4-4. Assuming Wade Phillips is fired this afternoon, he’ll be the first head coach to lose his job this season and his team is 1-7! I’m not by any stretch of the imagination *praising* the Texans’ record; nor am I not excusing it – I think we can all agree it’s disappointing. But fire-worthy?

Even if we don’t agree, and you think it is most definitely fire-worthy, or let’s assume the team cruises to 7 or 8 wins and Kubiak is shown the door after the season…people need to realize that McNair is probably going to clean house. There’s not a viable replacement on staff. One of the reasons Phillips is getting the axe, IMO, is so Jerry can evaluate Garrett as a head coach – makes sense. But do we really want Frank Bush running this team for 8 games? What’s the point? We’re starting from scratch if Kubiak is sent packing. So firing him now holds little advantage, IMO. The same thing was true in 2005 with Capers, BTW.

Plus, whether legitimate or not, Kubiak’s teams have consistently been better in the season’s second half. You can argue whether he deserved this fifth year initially, but at this point, I think he deserves to be able to finish this off and see what happens. Again: They’re 4-4 and a game behind the division leader with 4 division games left and two more against legitimate wild card contenders.

I’m *not* defending Kubiak at all. BUT – if Foster makes a routine play; if Johnson makes a routine catch yesterday– for all the consternation over Kubiak, he did what a coach is supposed to do, IMO: That team was in position to win repeatedly against the Chargers. Three times they drove inside the Charger 10-yard line, and came away with 9 points. Combined, in their 2 losses to the only two teams they’ve played with a losing record (DAL and SD), they’ve driven to the 5-, 1-, 10-, 3-, 7-, and 17-yard line of their opponents and came away with 15 points (all FGs). That’s just unacceptable and there’s not a halfback option pass to be found. We have to hold the players responsible, too.

I think Kubiak is a better coach than people realize. But I’m starting to doubt his player personnel skills.

If you asked me to pick the Texans season record today, I'd say...

    20%: 8-8
    50%: 7-9
    30%: 6-10

    :(

while i can appreciate pragmatism, and i may be looking at the situation a bit too emotionally, kubiak is just not getting the results. besides, i don't like the way he looks, he pisses me off.

I think they are doing it on both sides of the ball, too. This 'dumbing down' is concerning. In the press conf today Kubiak made some comment that they 'simplify' the defensive schemes because they've had injuries and are trying to get the new guys acclimated. Obviously that's really helping.

I'm just going to let the season play out, no expectations at all at this point. The rest of the schedule is tough, so actually my expectations are bleak.

But a lousy season is good in a way, Uncle Bob will see the bottom line and the bottom line might be the turnstiles turning less and phones to the customer line ringing less. (Then again, I've heard there is a waiting list on Texans season tickets, so who knows.)

Well put.. however... the problem that i have with Kubiak is the fact the he too makes mistakes GAME IN and GAME OUT. His lack of ability to continue to attack makes me sick!

Its not ALL on Kubiak, but it starts at the top (this includes Rick Smith). He was the one who made the decision to go YOUNG with the secondary. He was the one who decided to bring in Frank Bush.

In an UNCAPPED season, they dont bring in ANY help in the secondary, and don't bring in a pass rusher. That's on NOT ONLY Kubiak, but also on Rick Smith.

You spend 1st ROUND PICKS after 1st ROUND PICKS after 1st ROUND PICKS to strengthen the defense, but it has gotten WORST and WORST! At some time, the front office has to be held accountable.

I dont care if we make the playoffs or not. I just wanna see improvements in the W-L column. If we finish worst than 10-6 this year, Kubiak and Rick Smith need to be fired and give a blank check to Bill Cowher and let him name his price.
