Well, let's see, this week is all gloom and doom. The Texans are the worst team in the history of the NFL. There's no hope for the future. We must trade all the players, fire all the coaches and management, get a new owner who wants to win more than McNair. We all know what happens when the Texans have us lose faith. They come out and play well and usually win. I'm expecting no different this week. Texans 23 Chargers 17 Texans on CBS: 4-0 Texans not on CBS: 0-3
I would buy into this if the Texans were 2-5. But they're not. They are 4-3, with a really big game looming this weekend. Based on the way they are playing, they are actually DUE for a full 60-minute performance in this game. This team usually rises when criticism is at its worst, and right now, it's about as bad as it's been all year. To say they have NO shot at the playoffs is, at best, being over-dramatic. A win this weekend puts us square in the wild card chase, and that's regardless of what the Colts do. The Eagles have the one weapon that will neutralize Dwight Freeney....a scrambling QB. At Philly, I think I might actually like the Eagles in that game. If that holds true, and the Eagles can actually pull the game out, coupled with a Texans victory, your "inept" team would be on top of the division at the halfway point of the season. Let the games play out before you start declaring this season a bust.
Do you really expect the horrible secondary, pathetic offensive line, and joke of a coach to turn themselves around in the next few weeks? The Texans have squeaked by because they are talented, they are playing a lot more good teams in the next few weeks with superior coaching. I do not trust Kubiak to keep this team afloat
CBS game = + Home game = - Even # game = + 30-37 Houston goes to 5-3 for the second time in franchise history.
Wow, did not know about this. Is there any way we can strike up a deal with CBS so they show all of our games, Notre Dame style?
After the last game, I think someone mentioned that we are 1-4 in the game following the bye week under Kubiak. We are also 1-3 in the game following the game following the bye under Kubiak. In 2008 and 2009, we lost 3 in a row after the bye and followed that up by winning 3 in a row (4 in a row last year).
Only game of the year I am rooting against the Chargers. I hope the Texans dont make Monday a really long day at work. Texans need to take advantage of the Chargers special teams and get a few Turnovers. I fear what Rivers and Gates is going to do to the Texans. Texans can definitely put the points up on the Chargers overrated D as well. Im going to go with my heart and say Texans 34 Chargers 31
Not expecting the defense to play as well as they did Monday. They were fired up and put in their best showing since week 1. Most likely we'll see a letdown. Have to spot the Chargers the usual 24 points. Even numbered game, so we should see good Matt Schaub. Hopefully this will be the first home game where we don't come out flat and dog it in the first half. Bad news is, the Chargers are one of the best against the pass: fewest yards allowed, #2 in sacks, and #6 in opposing QB rating. Football Outsiders ranks them as the #4 defense in the league right now. I'm bringing this up because it's clear by now: we score 30+ points, we win. We don't, we lose. SD just got to watch tape of what happens when you throw the kitchen sink at us, and they're even better at getting to the QB than Indy. Hopefully two of the very few wires inside Kubiak's brain connect and he realizes he needs to adjust his gameplan the way he should have in the second quarter on MNF. My gamplan demand: go to Owen Daniels early and often. It's a great matchup for him and the best way to soften up their defense. SD has been very weak against TEs this year, partially because they're constantly sending Phillips and Burnett in on blitzes. Cooper is 6-1 and isn't going to shut down the pass even if you just stick to outs and seams. Hell, consider going double TE formation more often. More blocking to help the run game (especially if you put Walter in motion or Leach in the backfield), and Dreessen gives you a second target they can't adequately defend. This isn't a game to chase home run hits downfield. Nickel and Dime them with the short passing game and Foster. WIN TIME OF POSSESSION. Lose this game and we're out of the playoffs, period. We have to go 6-3 and hope tiebreakers land in our favor as it stands. That means only 3 losses among: @Jets, Tenn/@Titans, Bal, @Philly and otherwise take care of business.
The Chargers have the #1 pass defense in the NFL after trading their, arguably, best CB.......and Norv Turner has guided his team to the playoffs the past 3 seasons. Are we talking about the same Chargers?
Texans always follow a let down game with a crucial win. I'm expecting a win that will get our hopes up then they will crush them in the next game.
I recall someone saying on ESPN last week that the Chargers had the number 1 offense and defense and a losing record. Interesting, stuff. As for the game...gonna be close...see if Kubiak remembers Arian Foster in the first quarter. DD
