Because for most owners, NFL games are one big buisness mixer. They're always entertaining guests/clients/dignitaries. Same reason why dudes who sit on a couch and scratch their balls all day aren't rich enough to be NFL owners.
If you catch the ball in the end zone you have to come down with clear possession so says the rule, though it look like Foster caught it just before. Tough break, at least we get the ball to start the 2nd half.
No kidding. At the end of the day, Fouts was right - it wasn't a catch. And not only that, he said (multiple times) that the rule was silly and makes no sense. It's like people are just hearing what they want to hear so they can b**** about it.
They have to be saying he didn't establish possession of the ball prior to crossing the goal line. That's the only explanation. Because if somebody caught the ball at the 5, got tackled as they were crossing the plane, and the ball came out after crossing the plane, that would be considered a catch.
I got no problems there. You take the points since we are getting the ball to start the 2nd half. A good drive to open, and we can be up by 2 scores with Foster ready to pound the clock during the 2nd half.
Yea... but if the teams were reversed, Fouts likely doesn't scream about it as much. I don't blame him for being a homer... he's a Charger legend. It would be like asking Earl Campbell to be neutral for an Oilers game in the 90's. I'm more bewildered that CBS puts him in this position. Hasn't Fouts had issues with this before? Isnt' that why he constantly has a new gig every other year?
This. The running game isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Schaub's decision making, on the other hand, is.
Agree but if he had run the ball 3 times, inside the 4, instead of two passes, the play would have been irrelevant. Kubes tends to get to cute at times, RUN THE DAM BALL.
I think this is why it's the worst rule in football. If you just have to cross the goal line for it to be a touchdown, then why can you catch the ball, take two steps (whether you're falling or not), have your knee hit, and then have the ground cause the fumble, but it be ruled incomplete? Are you not down when your knee hits just like anywhere else on the field? I understand if you come down in the air and don't maintain possession, but, if you take two steps and your knee is down, it makes no sense to me. Worst rule in the NFL.
but therein lies the problem with kubiak... too much thinking. too much analyzing. no balls. do it just to make a statement. clearly when i say go for it i mean hand it off to foster and let him get it. show some damn intensity for *****s sake! if we don't get it, fine. chargers aren't doing anything from their own 1 yd line anyways.
I agree with what you're saying... but I don't think Foster's knee ever hit the ground before he put the ball on the ground.
Come on, dude. Foster has 19 carries in the first half. That's what everyone was begging for, and he's delivering. Let's not complain about absolutely everything. I would have thrown the ball at least once in that situation. I have no qualms about Kubiak's play calling so far.
NOT COMPLAINING about the gameplan, love it, but in that situation, when he has broken the Chargers, he has to just run it down their throat. Could be a play we look back at and shake our heads down the road.
