That is exactly what I thought of watching the game last night. He was talking about the strategy he would employ when Roy was at the plate sacrificing early in the game to move two runners over. He said he might rather have Roy show bunt and swing away to find a hole for a single that could lead to a big inning. I think he would be like Dierker in terms of strategy and success, though some of those Dierker teams were loaded with talent.
I know you're not blaming the problems the Stros are having on CC. Thats just r****ded, have you seen the squad we have playing out there. As you said marginal pitching, WTF do you expect him to do with that??? We just need to start cleaning house and setting ourselves up for the future. Do like everyother good team does and bring our players up thru the farm system like all the other good teams. Drake stop trying to be the scrub version of the Yankess!!! What a jackass.
Justice has hated Cooper since day one. Don't believe anything he writes regarding him. Also, on the radio Justice was talking about the "toxic enviroment", but then commented that most teams have players that hate the manager. Justice was saying Cooper was going to be the first manager fired this season, then the Astros gave him an extension. Justice clearly has an axe to grind with Cooper for some reason. Bottom line is the pitching/bullpen is not getting it done. The team started with integral parts not hitting worth a damn. I don't care who the manager is, that is the recipe for failure. Is firing Cooper going to make the bullpen better? Is firing Cooper going to snap people out of slumps? At some point you have to change the players on the field and not always fire the manager.
they kicked worrell out and made deshaies full time like 5 years ago i believe. either way, time flies.
come on fhqwhgads you're just making yourself look worse, ya know. i mean...everyone's gonna just feel sorry for you. i do.
The Astros are just waiting for Brad Ausmus to retire. Then it will be Ausmus as manager and Bagwell as the bench coach.
I support Coop. This team isn't going to be good anyways and he did well with a crappy team last year.
Wow i just read that article D*ck Justice wrote and this one part really caught my eye... (I personally try to help by going straight to my bosses and telling them what each staffer is saying about them. In this way, I hope the sides can get together and discuss their differences. Just the other day, John McClain and David Barron had some pretty unvarnished opinions about Carlton Thompson. I have to say Carlton didn't seem pleased to hear them, but I'm sure he'll appreciate them when he has some time to chew on the situation.) Before i read the article i thoroughly disliked the guy because of his "knee-jerk" statements and contradicatory articles but reading that makes me hate him even more. Just shows how two faced he is by having his co-workers entrust in him for venting only for him to turn around and tell his employers all the negative things that were said and by who, that's just unreal
I simply do not understand why JD would want to move from a fun job in the booth into the pressure cooker that is the manager's office. If Ausmus is willing, I think he would be a great manager. He would actually know how to manage a pitching staff, is a good teacher, and has a great mind for the strategy of the game.
I don't follow the Astros that closely but Cooper doesn't seem to be the major problem with the club. Wade and Cooper both walked into pretty bad situations and sadly, it doesn't look like they will be able to fix it before they get the axe just based on bad publicity and bad management at the top of the organization.
I agree as to Wade. Cooper makes some of the worst decisions I have ever seen: 1. He is married to the righty vs lefty comparison. Sitting Jeff Keppinger for a week at a time when he was batting almost .400 was stupid. 2. He makes Jimy Williams look like a genius at managing a pitching staff. You bring a guy up, he compiles a 2.56 ERA over 3 starts, going 6 innings each time, and you reward the kid with a trip to the bullpen. Good job shaking his confidence. He has not been the same since. This does not even touch his tendency to hang a pitcher out to dry when he is obviously done. In short, Cecil Cooper sucks as a manager.
