Felipe Alou is sending mixed signals...saying that Bonds is sitting out the AZ series so he's rested for a final showing in the Dogers series, b/c that series has playoff implications that the AZ one doesn't. He says that "it's time to let the kids play". He *also* says that, in the event of a trip to STL: "We would make people go to the game as an organization, and the league has to take a stand. It's an important game for the National League and the integrity of the game to play." So, we really don't know what to expect.
I like this quote. I hope they follow through with it. I've never been an advocate of tanking games even though a well timed loss may have delivered Roy to the Rockets. You play the games not necessarily for yourself, but to make teams earn a pennant. I can see the integrity of the game being more of a baseball thing because so few teams make the playoffs.
I disagree - lots of veterans shut it down at the end of the season if there's no reason not to. Vlad is done as well. Clemens may have been done if we didn't make this run. San Fran's obligations are to themselves and their team - not to the Astros or Cards or the NL Central race. The Astros had plenty of opportunities to win the division throughout the season - the fact that we now might need their help is not really their problem. It sucks for us, but I don't think they have any obligations to us. Same with Atlanta and Milwaukee this weekend.
As usual, you can't get much worse luck than the Astros. Giles is sitting out tonight, likely with the bizarre fluke injury at the end of last night.
Cards tie the game and still have runners on the corners and 2 outs... all started with 2 outs and nobody on. Ridiculous.
i may be late in saying this...but very relieved the Reds lost. the idea of passing the cards only to be passed by the reds makes me wanna vomit.
