It's a team effort; how bout if we won half of what the ENTIRE bullpen blew, didn't have to rely on unproven rookie pitchers or ones without any stuff for most of the year, got past some of the stubborn decisions Garner made (Gallo, Lane, Ensberg early on, Wandy, Lidge at time, etc) and showed more consistancy in driving runners home in key situations.

Oh but rocketfat, human error is part of the game...

It's such ****ing absolute bull****. If you honestly think preserving the integrity of human error and judgment is worth losing team's entire seasons by the incompetence and biased views of a couple of fat pieces of ****, you've got major issues. Just like in football, get the umpires some help. Give them a way to get these calls right.

If St Louis beat the Brewers cleanly, and cleary, I have no problems with the lost.

    Okay, a maybe a little.

    Okay, maybe a lot.

You just don't want to lose/be eliminated on something like that.

If we beat San Antonio, we would have had game Seven in Houston instead of Seattle.

who the hell's blaming this season's failures on the umps? bottom line is, circumstances have changed dramatically, and the cards have played just as bad as we did all season. mlb rules indicate that the team with the best record in the nl central is allowed to play in the playoffs, and we still had a decent shot going into this weekend. i dont care how the hell we got there...point is, we were there, and the clueless or crooked ump just put an end to it.

No I understand what you are saying and I hate the call, but I am looking at the bigger picture here.

Yes the call was horrible and screwed us

i just hope that, if nothing else, we win today so carpenter is forced to pitch for them tomorrow and screws up their postseason rotation.

maybe i'm just nervous, but everybody thinks it's a lock that they get demolished and blown out of the playoffs. i hope that's the case, but i have my doubts.

I agree ... in the baseball playoffs, anyone can get hot and go all the way. Lets make it as hard on them as possible

yup...take um....damn when was that that it last happened?? oh. 2005!

not that the cards are postseason-built like the white sox were, but remember, the sox were in a similar tailspin at the end of last year and the indians came out of nowhere to almost pull off what we almost pulled off this year. and the sox parlayed a couple wins in the last few games of the season to catching fire and a world series sweep.

anything's possible once you're in the tourney.

While the Sox may have experienced a similar meltdown it wasn't as near as a collapse as the Cardinals have endured, plus they won 6 of their last 8; not exactly barely escaping with a few wins in the finals few days like the Cards are doing. Plus, while any team is capable of getting hot late in the season and riding that momentum into the playoffs (Astros, Sox, Marlins), it's gonna take a helluva lot of momentum for the Cardinals to overcome their pitching outside of Carpenter at a time when pitching is key. The Sox were a pretty complete team...these Cardinals are far from it. Course the rest of the NL has weaknesses too.

The Sox had a much deeper pitching staff than the Cards do.

really? i don't get that sense at all. the padres have played some pretty good baseball as of late. the cards have been abysmal. the cards have exactly one starter that i'd be comfortable throwing in a playoff game. enjoy your champagne celebration after yet another loss to the brewers, red birds.

That's a fact, jack! The Tigers played about as 'braindead' as one could possibly be in the WS. Cards in 5, unbelievable!!! I dont think the WhiteSux even committed one error in our series in 2005. The Tigres practically handed the WS trophy to them on a silver freakin platter. Every mistake, the Cards capitalized on. Incredible, just incredible!

I know!! I hate the Cardinals more than any other sports team in any league. Followed very closely by the Mavericks and Utah Jazz( I will never be able to let it go)
