SOrry, I can't get ya this one tonight. It's not being shown here in College Station. I can get tomorow's though.
Bagwell will be ok. His trademark slow start to the season will really hurt though, with Berkman out the offense is anemic. We need badly for Bagwell to produce.
The worst thing is when we are down 7-1 and you look at the lineup and you realize a comeback isn't likely. Ever.
What do you consider as "ok"? A now average hitter with below average plate coverage who will struggle to hit .270 at best with 20 to 25 homeruns?
Look on the bright side...if the Red Sox and the Astros were in the same division, we would be half a game up on them. The Red Sox!!! World Champs!!! Coming back down to reality, we are getting shelled. I hope we can make a strong showing tomorrow. The only reason I am still going to watch is because I want to see Taveras hit. What a letdown this game was for me.
Batting average isn't everything, nor are home runs. Bagwell will still get on base almost 40% of the time, is likely to both score and drive in 100 runs, and hit around 30 home runs (27 last year was his first below 30 in a decade). All of which doesn't add up to a great 1B, certainly not up to his contract value, but he's about average as starting 1B go.
Same here. I like the way he makes contact and speeds to first. He's not going to be confused with Ichiro, but I think he would make a better leadoff man than our other options.
No doubt in my mind that he needs to leadoff. His talents are being wasted at the bottom of the lineup. Ausmus in front of him and pitcher behind him. I cant think of a worse situation.
