We are 1 game behind the Cubs for 5th. And 1 win (same # of losses) ahead of the Twins for the worst record.
Good point! But I don't think there are any contenders willing to demote their own closer for Brandon Lyon. Though certainly, injuries or other problems could change that.
Funny story (at least to me). We played in the Astros in Action golf tournament back in April. When I showed up to register, they told us that we would be playing with Mark Melancon. They then said, no, we would be playing with Larry Dierker. Anyway, in looking around before play started, I noticed one current Astro. I assumed it was Mark Melancon, so I went to introduce myself. Turns out it was Brandon Lyon. I wanted to say "Mark Melancon will be you before the year is over", but I thought better of it as he was holding a gold club at the time.
Not so sure Bourn doesn't end up in a National's jersey by season's end. Love the little guy but he really isn't that good of a leadoff guy.
Among Berkman's great qualities is the humility with which he plays the game. You'll never see Soriano-style showboating or any other crap like that. I'm fairly certain that players around the league have genuine respect for him. You can clearly see that he's been fully embraced by his teammates and coaches in St. Louis.
