Trust me, LaRussa has been burned by leaving in his starter with a high pitch count on many occasions.

I still remember Matt Morris in 2003 of a 2-1 game going into the 9th... and Izzy was hurt or something... and LaRussa left him in with 120+ pitches.

Kent took him deep for a walkoff HR.

LaRussa also would have been crucified had Carpenter developed an injury (which he still may likely do anyways). Hell, the Cardinals are one Chris Carpeneter injury away from being DONE in this division. Their offense is not threatening at all, they have major holes in the rotation (and no lefty starter), and their bullpen can be beat.

Great win! It's so much fun having some meaningful baseball to watch going into August.

Exciting win, great series...I cant believe this team is sitting in this position. Truly remarkable.

How about we trade for Halladay? :D :p

No, seriously, lets get some pitching help to get us into the playoffs.

So you think decisions made in this game are opinions? Not based on facts such as the arm strength of the guy throwing, the foot speed of the player running, or the quality of the catcher who will eventually get him out?

Got it... baseball is simply a guessing/opinion game...

Its like saying that basketball players just randomly make open shots, or miss guarded ones... and it shouldn't matter what type of defense or offense you play... that's how dumb you're making this all sound.

So you are saying every manager would stop him there, because to me, LaRussa would have sent him, and so would many other aggressive managers.

I mean honestly...are you kidding me?????? I am hoping you are pulling my chain, because baseball and the decisions made are almost all opinions based upon data, feel, and personality type.

    Ah..what is the point....seriously????

Glad the team won.......and hate the lack of class shown by people cursing...just disgraceful.

My god, can we all show more class and respect for people and stop cursing?

Seriously, we can all have a difference of opinion and still respect the other person and post with class.

You are better than that Buck......

you joke, but i would gut our entire farm system for him, especially since we just swept that series.

i'm guessing we are going to hear some chatter over the next couple days. a TON just changed in the past week. get halladay, and i can't see us losing the division.

I'm actually more worried about the offense.

Pitching will ultimately help them win IN the playoffs... but to get there, they still need to be getting more production from the top and bottom of the order.

Oswalt, Wandy, and one quality start out of Moehler/Ortiz/Hampton should be enough pitching for the regular season (especially if the bullpen stays solid, and Sampson comes back healthy).

However, Bourn and Pence are becoming pretty streaky, Lance needs to get healthy, Lee is improving (but still needs to slug more), and Tejada may eventually regress.

Oh yeah!!!! Nothing better than answering an earlier sweep with one of our own, especially against a division foe.

How far has this team come.... from the cellar to start June, and clawing their way back to the thick of the NL races as we close out July.

Day off, then back to work for the Mets. Hampton vs. Johan on Friday!

Completely agree....I thought if we could just stay afloat we might make a minor move but if we thrive during this tough stretch I think Drayton might make a move...not Halladay but a 3rd or 4th starter like Garland would be ideal now!

Are you saying Cooper doesn't preach an aggressive approach on the basepaths?

The fact is that he's aggressive to a fault.

Plus, it wasn't LaRussa that sent those runners. It was the 3rd base coach. Sure, LaRussa advises what to do in general but those are split-second decisions made on the fly by the guy at 3rd, not the manager.

I agree, it is a choice based upon his thoughts at the moment, and based upon what he thinks.....I am saying different coaches would approach that situation differently...

Not that one is right or wrong, just that there are differences of opinion there as to what to do.

It doesn't matter, Clark made the call, and the team won......

Even Footer just referenced that some fans would be questioning that call.....no worries....just a difference of opinion...

Thinking a bit more clearly now...I kinda understand it because on the road you play for the win and at home for the tie so the home team will usually play more conservative still Id send him but understand the argument against.

Yeah, right, either way, the meaning is the same, and it has gotten worse on the board as certain posters have begun cursing, and to me, it was never allowed, and shows a severe regression in the quality of the board.

Nope, nope, and nope. Why do asterisks bother you so? What have they done? Without profanity, they'd be relegated to punctuational hell (heck?) somewhere in between the tilde & the pilcrow.
