that was an extremely obvious no catch even in real time from my television. why on earth would he not ask for help from the rest of the crew?
I hope in time with REPLAY in baseball now, that teams can get challenges (aka. every other sport) and we can get some obvious calls corrected.
Jesus. Pujols is an absolute beast. I used to despise the guy because I thought he was on steroids all of these years. Now with the constant and consistent drug testing, I can at least respect him for being one hell of a player. I still hate his cocky half a minute stare after each home run, but I can respect the guy.
Always nice to play a possible spoiler against any playoff teams . With our schedule for September, we've got a very good shot to take at least 11 more games to finish at .500 or possibly a little better. We play Pittsburgh like 45 times, so that's good for at least 30-40 more wins. Then again, Pittsburgh has owned us this year, but we should still be cool for .500.
26-15 since the All Star break. 3 wins away from last years win total. It's a better team this year. If we could have had a better June, we would have had a reasonable chance at the wild card.
Only caught the end of the game because of work, but it's nice to play spoiler for a "playoff" team. Better team than last year, now that we finally have some hitting....if we can just get some pitching...
Starting pitching should definitely be the priority this off-season but we also need more high OBP hitters in this lineup. Of are regulars, only Berkman is really good at reading pitches. Matsui is decent as is Lee but there isn't much else. Loretta is very good but he doesn't play a lot. If we can get a top-tier starting pitcher and a legit, high-OBP leadoff guy, I think we'd be in good shape for next year. Bourn has shown some good signs despite a sub-par year (one of the team leaders in pitches per plate appearance) but I'm not sure if he's ever going to be able to put it all together. I don't want to get stuck with a Rickie Weeks type situation.
Going for the sweep. I know it is not in the Astros best interest to win all of these games, but anytime you beat the Cardinals I am good with it. I hate the Cardinals as much as I hate the Jazz.
Where are the people that b****ed that when Adam was traded this was going to be a VERY sloppy team. Lots of errors from Tejada, Wiggy, and Matsui etc... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=280830118
It is great they have so few errors, but lack of errors is not indicative of a great defensive team. They are very solid but Everett (when healthy) is still far and away a better defensive SS than Tejada. Keep in mind that the outfielder with the highest life time fielding percentage among all major leaguers who qualify is Terry Puhl.
Wandy was lucky to get out of that inning. now he can settle down and hopefully give us 6 solid innings.
Everett when healthy was far away the best SS fielding wise. It wasn't just the errors, but also his range and his ability to read the balls hit (highlight reel plays that Jeter makes are done with ease by Everett). Regardless, I'll still keep those core of players over Ensberg, Lamb, Everett, and Biggio because of their offense.
All errors can do is measure routine plays. They don't speak at all to balls a premium defender like Everett could get to that a player like Tejada or Wigginton simply can't. Carlos Lee typically has a high fielding percentage (few errors), yet I don't think you'd call him a good defensive LF, would you? I don't view defense as an overall problem for this group, but it's definitely faulty logic to equate total errors with the quality of team defense, either way.
I gotchya. Some places we would have had DPs if Adam was there. But you know what. Tejada > Adam. I'm just happy I don't have to watch adam at the plate anymore. The dude was killer on the field though. It was stupid to mention the errors as far as a defense. I guess I was just happy they are taking care of the ball (not being erratic with it).
Nothing wrong with posting what you did. In the overall scheme of things, it is surprising they have had so few errors this year. It just shows they are disciplined enough to make the plays they should.
