I find it funny how a 1/2 inning after the Astros squandered an opportunity to bring some runs home with 2 on and no outs, Cooper is talking about having to come through with situational hitting, moving the runners over....yeah, talk is cheap, you better produce results in these last 31 games.
Anybody else paying attention? Junction Jack may join Purpura and Garner in the unemployment line! HELLS YEAH! BRING BACK ORBIT!!!!!
Well by results I don't necessarily mean wins... or for him to take the rotation outside of Roy and turn them into Cy Young candidates. But more focus and intensity, better fundamental baseball, less fielding and baserunning errors, more consistent playing time for the young guys like Burke (to see if they deserve a spot next year), a more consistent lineup, etc would be nice. I heard a blurb when I was actually watching the game that Bidge talked w/ him today about his playing time, and apparently his role won't change much, although Burke MAY get some more opportunities at other positions. Now Bidge is one of my favorite players and I've been fairly level-headed this season, but jeez, if you're not gonna shake things up then what was the point of even firing Garner now anyways?
Man... where has the pitching gone. Used to have a 1-2-3 punch and a good closer. We can't win with only Oswalt.
1/2 game out of LAST PLACE IN THE NL now. Only 3 teams worse than the Astros in all of MLB. Got a LOT of work to do this offseason...
sadly, I picked up Redding against us before...and Looper against us this week. great for me..feel bad doing it.
Wow, we really are terrible. I don't know why...but even though our starting pitching looked terrible on paper. I still had HIGH hopes for this team. Sad season, but whatever. There's always next year. Until then...Go TEXANS, go TCU, go TAMU, Go ROCKETS!!!!
A month ago I resigned myself to the fact that the Astros are done for the playoffs. Well, maybe more like two months ago. A couple weeks ago I resigned myself to the fact that the Astros will finish below .500 for the first time since 2000. That's a bummer. They'll have to go 24-6 to finish at 82-80; 23-7 to finish 81-81. Not happening. In their 30 remaining games, I predict a 13-17 record, on par with their season-long .439 winning percentage. They'll finish at or around 71-91. Maybe they can rally to a .460ish winning percentage and finish off at 72-90, so as not to finish worse than the 2000 club (which was a superior club in every respect to this one). It's been a horrible, horrible year.
