Maybe they can do that with Wandy again this year... only he doesn't need to come back. His days are numbered with Backe on the mend. Buchholz and Nieve are far more consistent than Wandy ever was.
I agree, I hope Garner sees it that way too though. I'm worried he might stick with Wandy because of the experience factor.
Nice win, but we've GOT to drive these runners home. The 'Stros are probably the only team whose fans assume they'll hit into a double play EVERY TIME there's a runner on. And, sadly, that assumption is usually right. We can't strand this many baserunners against a team like the Cards (or like the ChiSox, for that matter) if we make it to the post-season.
what a game. I forget how much I hate the cardinals and their fans. As usual their was one obnoxious cards fan in our section. Their fans are so irritating. It was awesome waving at him on our way out.
Bad ****ing ass! I love it when we beat the birds. Damn that was fun to watch. And Lidge....YAY!!!! Let's do it again tomorow...I'll be there!
As bad as they have been the last two games... the Cardinals were worse last night... and they lost. Advantage Astros.
and not just last night...for the last few weeks the cardinals have been awful in nearly every facet of the game. it's nice to see, frankly.
that's what fans of the opposing teams are supposed to be....obnoxious. obnoxious may be teh wrong word but it's what makes going to the ballgame fun. as long as fans don't throw personal insults at each other, i like the fact taht they are there.
Okay I was right about last night. Let's pray I am wrong about tonight. We've got Rodriguez on the mound and I am so proud of my co-husband's performance last night.
Allright baby! Nice to see a 4 out save from Lidge against our our nemesis, 'da birds. It's Magic Wandy time! ONE DOWN, THREE TO GO!
I went last night for the ring. It was Texas Tech night so there was a lot of red in the stands. Who plans this stuff? I know its wrong but I was cracking up during the intro when they're reading the rules. The Hispanic announcers were adding "the" in places where it wasn't there. City of Houston regulations prohibit smoking except on the 2nd floor terrace patio blah blah. "The city of Houston the regulations prohibit the smoking on the 2nd floor the terrace patio."
Props to Lance for those two throws. I like him out there, he is not bad and it gives Lamb a chance to bat.
There were lots of Cards fans on the thirdbase side in the field boxes. You know usually, I hear sporadic individual cheers from the opposing teams fans, but with the cards, there was enough for a crowd of people to be cheering them on. I saw at least 2 divided families as well where like a husband had a stros jersey on and his wife a cards jersey. Did Berkman get some web gems btw (i missed bbt), those 2 assists were awesome.
Looks like Roy is an All Star! http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20060707&content_id=1544511&vkey=pr_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou Oswalt added to NL All-Star Team Astros right-hander named to replace Pedro Martinez on NL squad HOUSTON -- Houston Astros right-handed pitcher Roy Oswalt has been added to the National League All-Star Team, Major League Baseball announced today. Oswalt replaces New York Mets right-handed pitcher Pedro Martinez on the roster, as Martinez will not play in the game because of injury. The 28-year-old Oswalt will make his second All-Star appearance. He was named to the 2005 All-Star team as a result of fan voting on mlb.com, pitching one inning in last year's Midsummer Classic in Detroit. Oswalt is 6-5 this season and ranks sixth in the NL with a 3.10 ERA (41ER/119.0IP). He started the season with a 4-0 record while his four wins in April mark a career high for the month. Oswalt has recorded 20 wins in each of the last two seasons, and his 46 wins since the beginning of the 2004 season lead Major League Baseball. He is 89-44 with a 3.07 ERA (375ER/1099.2IP) since he made his Major League debut in 2001, and he has served as the Astros Opening Day starter in each of the last four seasons. Oswalt was named the MVP of the 2005 National League Championship Series. He holds a 4-0 mark in the postseason, the most playoff wins without a loss among active pitchers. Oswalt joins Lance Berkman at this year's All-Star Game, to be played on Tuesday, July 11, at Pittsburgh's PNC Park. Astros manager Phil Garner will guide the NL squad, while coaches Mark Bailey, Cecil Cooper, Jose Cruz, Gary Gaetti, Jim Hickey and Doug Mansolino will be part of the coaching staff.
Finally finished watching the game from last night, and man that was one of the most frustrating wins I've seen the Astros get. We really need to thank the Cards for all those opportunities. Both of Lance's assists were absolutely huge and the Stros defense really came through yesterday. That said, for us to win the division/wild card I think 2 things are going to have to improve ... 1) Situational hitting - Those bunt attempts were horrible by Burke and Palmeiro in big situations and were just an example of how we have performed this season in fundamental hitting situations. 2) Morgan is going to have to improve. If he is hurt he needs to man up and tell the team so he can sit for a couple weeks and get back to hitting the ball hard. I really don't trust him when he says he is feeling well enough to play. The good news is that I think those two things can definitely happen, and I am confident they will. With our pitching staff coming around (especially the pen), I think we are ready to make a run. We need to take 2 out of these next 3 games to go into the break with a lot of confidence.
That would be a better move, but I dont see them doing that right now, not while Wandy is still winning games. As long as he is getting the run support to win, he will stay in there. Even though that makes little sense to me. He is way to inconsistent.
