Wow... you really can't hide anybody on this team anywhere, at this point. Ensberg sucks, so you have to play Lamb at 3B... and he makes an error (to compound his error yesterday at 1B). Willy sucks so you have to play Burke at CF... and he misjudges a ball on Friday night. Munson allows passed balls left and right. And Wheeler completes the trifecta for spectacular collapses by the bullpen... you could tell he was feeling left out.
Anybody that thinks this team needs another bat needs to wake up and realize that the bullpen is costing us game after game after game..
At least Roy made the cards his b****es in the playoffs... not enough people seem to remember how silly he made these guys look (including Pujols).
Me too!!! I was just telling my wife that I think I have ESP because I saw Rolen's homer before he hit it. Either that or I'm just accustomed to the bullpen blowing leads and giving up homers.
This is a good wake up call to Timmy to think about things over the next couple of days and make some move. They are ahead in attendence, but that will soon change if this continues.
wheeler kind of stinks! i hope garner shoves lidge out there in the 9th and lets him hear it from the fans.
I wouldn't mind so much using Nieve in the pen more, hell even using Backe or Buccholz in the pen late in games when he comes back. But still, who do you goto in tight situations like this? I wouldn't trust a rookie arm coming into a 1 run game with no outs and a man on 3rd. But right now it's painfully obviously that nobody else in the pen is capable of holding a runner in a top spot; they are so freakin' anti-clutch.
I'll name a few... send down Taveras for Scott, when Backe comes back send down Wandy, give Nieve more chances out of the bullpen in place of the constant use/overuse of the "big 3", and come up with a lineup and STICK WITH IT. Lamb and Burke need to be towards the top of the lineup for EVERY game... those are the guys who have actually earned the right to be there, not Ensberg or Lane who have gotten free passes/multiple opportunities. You can discuss trades all you want... but there are more teams ahead of the Astros right now who are going after the same guys with just as much intensity, and they all likely have the same level of "prosepcts" that we can offer (a mlb ready pitcher like Hirsh, and young pitchers/everyday players with lower ceilings).
I think Purpura and Garner need to send a message to the bullpen and really shake up things; even if it means throwing Nieve out there in a close situation. They've coddled these guys too much. ...The ESPN broadcast turned to s*** just like the Astros chances of winning....and as I type that a 2 run bomb. That call sounds A LOT BETTER when its for one of our home runs.
is it also weird that i sort of thought burke might hit a homer also? maybe i just think that before every batter or something. of course, we'll still lose.
Burke, Lamb, Berkman, Biggio... we're playing games with only 4 average/above average MLB hitters. (with Wilson on the bubble of being "average").
Yet they've put up 4 runs on the board; despite the ineffective of Lane and Ensberg, Everett, Ausmus, Taveras...this team still has managed to score runs. We just don't have the rock solid starting pitching (getting there) and shutout bullpen (nowhere near that level) to put games away.
wow, you just analyzed this game pretty much exactly how purpura/mclane will! all is well, we scored 4 runs and that's with more than half the team not doing ****! they are bound to come around eventually!!! let's sit on our asses and pray for it to be so!
