Whatever Wallace's potential is as a hitter, he'd obviously be higher rated if he could've stuck at 3B. As a 1B, his value goes down a little and there are questions about whether he has the kind of pop you expect at that position. Still too early to tell... his body type is definitely one of a slugger. His arms look short though, which I guess can be a good or bad thing. It could also just be that his build makes it appear that way.
Yep nailed it, a scout was on 610 last night and he basically said the same thing. He even suggested that Wallace could simple work on his defensive issues and would be a great value at 3b instead of simple above avg at 1st.
It amazes me as to how Byrdak hasn't been DFA'd yet. There has to be at least one suitable lefty somewhere in Round Rock...
So far, the rebuilding project looks great but I assume that will change. Wallace followed in the famous footsteps of Baggy and Puma going hitless in their first starts so no biggy there. Wandy continues to impress after a horrible start, I wonder if he could clear waivers in August what his value could be pitching like this.
It's still making me kind of sick to see Berkman with the Yankees. As much as he's one of my favorite players, it's really hard to root for that team. I don't know if I can do it.
They aren't serious about Bourn's Cougars, are they? I thought they were just joking about that. Cougar has more than one meaning and the first one that came to mind wasn't an animal. Maybe that's just me.
All true but right now its not a big issue. Chris Johnson is manning the hot corner right now and doing a decent job at the plate. Actually a far better job than anyone anticipated. He's kind of position limited because he doesn't hit for enough power to move to a different corner spot and he's probably not agile enough to handle a middle infield position well. Conversely, Wallace was drafted as a 3b but hasn't shone the defensive skills to stay there. No one is pushing him at first so you might as well leave him there. Would he be more valuable at 3b? Of course. But right now just having him in the line up getting acclimated is better than nothing.
Lidge blew the save and took the loss for the Phillies tonight after they rallied late to take the lead. It's already his 4th BS of the season after missing a bunch of time. Funny threads here: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gametracker/recap/MLB_20100731_PHI@WAS?tag=optionLinks;recap Oswalt one night. Lidge the next.
On another note, we're only 1.5 games back of the Cubs. Every time we get close, we haven't been able to leapfrog them. I really want to pass them in the standings, even if for only a day or two. The reactions of their fans would be awesome.
It'll be awesome if we finish 3rd in the division especially because I hate the cubs and the brewers Everybody, 3RD PLACE!!, 3RD PLACE!!!, 3RD PLACE!!!!!, 3RD PLACE!!!!!!
what's the verdict on CJ so far? He's been legit so far at 3rd base offensively. I know that it's going to take time for pitchers to adjust to hitters in the league but do you think he can continue being a .300 plus hitter for his career in the MLB?
Yeah that just doesn't have a good ring to it like the Killer Bees, O's Bros, Little Pumas and Los Caballitos... they should just be something generic....like the Conoco (Pump) Crazies...until a nickname for someone just naturally occurs...and until the team finds it's idenity. ...but I do like JD's suggestion..Wallace's Walruses...but somehow I don't seem him to keen on being associated with that animal.
I don;t think his issues are going to be the types of things you can work on. If you are born with a big fat @ss you just have a big fat @ss. Unless he can change the fundamental laws of physics, inertia will always keep him from being a 3b with even average range.
Highly doubtful. Morgan Ensberg once looked like he was going to be a regular all-star to. If CJ can just pull an OPS around .800 I'll be extremely happy. He has definitely been our best player this year.
