I propose the "Oswalt treatment" for all of our struggling pitchers. We shall have Hampton try it out first. Hampton is working on his car and then gets the hell shocked out of his arm while working on it and thus becomes a prolific pitcher again.
Don't mean to pick on Valverde, but when I read what he said in the paper this morning, I wanted to puke. "I threw all my pitches. I know this guy's a good hitter. He hit my fastball." That's just it, Jose, you didn't throw all your pitches to him. I checked out MLB Gameday to see the pitch selection and they were all fastballs (96,97,97,98) and all were up and in. Ughhhh...... I get tired of this macho "I throw hard so I can throw it all the time and you can't hit it" attitude. The three keys to pitching are location, movement and velocity......maybe somebody should remind Jose about the first two.
Also, Coop may want to think about going back to hitting Miggy 2nd in the order. I know it's early, but these splits are quite drastic. 2nd: .439 AVG, 1.014 OPS 5th: .200 AVG, .459 OPS
Lol, as much as I love to see a 98 mph fastball... it would be nice to see some other pitches too. Good post.
i love watching pudge behind the dish, has a + arm (not quite what it was in his prime/roided, but still strong), and is on the money with almost every throw. i can't believe the abortion of a catcher that was bradley ausmus was allowed to play for this team for so long. a well-past-his-prime pudge is roughly a zillion time better than ausmus was in his "prime". i know he isn't off to the greatest start, but we got him so cheaply, i wish we just gave him a 3-year contract. we arent going to have a better catcher in the majors before then.
What's up with Berkman? Was he injured early and can't get it going or have the other teams figured him out?
No, I don't think he's had any severe injuries. I know he missed part of Spring Training late for whatever reason with an injury but it's more than likely just a case of Berkman sucking balls to open the season.
