I seriously don't think the AL is that dominating. Though it would appear that the 4 spots are already locked up, do you seriously think that Boston wouldn't play well if they got to the post season?

Here are the projected finishes based on winning percentage, so far.

    Detroit Tigers - 101 - 61

    New York Yankees - 96 - 66

    Oakland A's - 94 - 68

    Wild Card - Chicago White Sox - 96 -66

(Red Sox proj. finish - 86-76)

    Now the NL:

    New York Mets - 101 -61

    L.A. Dodgers - 86 - 76

    St. Louis Cardinals - 86 - 76

San Diego Padres (or WC winners rough win %) - 83 - 79

Now, while the AL has looked better recently, I certainly don't consider them superior by any means. I'd love to take a shot at any of those teams.

As, I've stated, nobody is counting out the Red Sox just yet, and they're not doing that much better than the Stros.

Nice aside, Astros winning 84 games this year is still very doable, provided we make some noise against the Cards, who we still have seven games left.

After all, the record we would need to hit 84 - 78 would be to go 19 - 10. Hmmmm. That record seems familiar. Oh yeah. It's the exact same record we had at the beginning of the season.

    Get it done boys.

Yep, batter was out(touch 1st base). Runners on all corners. Third baseman steals home, unforced(steals) need a tag :p

Going back to that last play,

here is an option the brewers could have done and all the rule experts correct me if im wrong

couldn't the 1st baseman have tagged berkman at first base (since he went back to the bag) then stepped on 1st base to complete the double play thus not allowing the run to score?

If that was possible that would have been the ideal scenario for them, but quick thinking is always hard to accomplish!

Nope. As long as Berkman is on a bag, he will not be deemed "out", until the forced runner touches it. Then the runner who hit the bag is out.

Bottom line, the best scenario for them was to throw home, then to first. That would have worker if they did it in time.

Not correct. If the force is still in play then Lance is out even on first base. The base you are forced out of is not a safe haven.

So did anyone see my question? I'm an out-of-towner who couldn't watch the game. Would the catcher have been able to tag Lamb at home? Just wondering how close the play would have been had the catcher realized he needed to apply a tag.

that doesn't make sense tho....cant they just tag berkman like if he was running towards 2nd base?

no i don't believe the catcher had time to turn and tag lamb out, lamb went on contact and got their right after the throw got there, the catcher wasn't set up to tag, he was set up to catch the ball with his foot on the base, he didn't block the plate, therefore had no chance to tag the runner out

Cool, thanks. Nice to know that at least we didn't win on just a total brain fart, but I would take the win anyway. :D

Yes, but at that point if Lamb had scored before the tag was applied to Berkman, we would have won. I guess they didn't want to chance it. Though, didn't Berkman get back pretty quickly?

They could have tagged berkamn then touched first. It was a brain fart.

Berkman would not have been out, since the first baseman touched first before he would have tagged Berkman, because Berkman was on the bag. Touching first takes the force off Berkman, and he can't be out if he's on tagged standing on a base.

The Bagwell has spoken. It was a Berkman brainfart:

But double brainfarts for the Brewers: Catcher thought force was still there & 1st baseman missed opportunity at bang-bang double-play to end inning.

Ugh. What a wasted opportunity for us to win the division.

I can't believe the Cards are going to take it with less than 90 wins.

Berkman was back on first before the guy fielded the ball. He should have run...but I don't know how well he could see that the ball wasn't a line drive. Aubrey said after the game that he thought it was caught in the air.

I was at the game last nite, and everyone around us was kind of confused, but once everyone saw the home plate ump signal safe and the stros run out of the dugout we went crazy.

Quick question- was this the first "walk off" victory of the season? I attend or watch pretty much every game and dont remember having any game end with our last at bat.

Well, the announcers after the game jokingly called it a walkoff groundout.
