I agree, I would trade Pence, Wandy, Bourn and Kepp by the deadline and see where that takes you. Only brought him up because he just had gone deep. Wandy pitching so well tonight is a great sign, keep doing that and we should get an outstanding return for all those guys mentioned above. Sadly, the major league club is irrelevant at this point, all that matters is to continue building toward the future and stockpiling the system with good young talent.
Wandy and Pence are the big ones. Wandy's value should actually be around Oswalt's value last year, though people don't treat him that way. Pence should bring back way more than Berkman, given he is about to become a 2-time all-star that is 28, and has a couple more years of club control. Its up to Wade to get proper value for these guys. You need to get a great return for those two. It will be interesting to see what kind of value Bourn has. I imagine Kepp at best brings you a bullpen arm (not that we don't need another) or a mid-level prospect (Of course that guy could become the next Ben Zobrist).
Career version. The guy was amazing in 2009, and sucked in 2010, but is having a good 2011 in addition to a good year as a backup in 2008.
Considering we are discussing the Astros, they would get the 2006, 2007, 2010 Zobrist. They would then release him and he would be picked up by a contender and become the 2009 Zobrist.
Ed Wade is afraid to admit to another FA mistake: Kaz Matsui Shawn Chacon Mike Hampton Pedro Feliz Bill Hall I didn't want to include Myers, since he was a great move by Wade when he actually was a FA, and nor did I include the likes of Russ Ortiz who made the club after signing a minor league deal. I'd put his chance of being fired at some point this year at around 80%, and him being gone before 2013 at around 98%.
