LLL Thanks for the ride, Astros. Rules for the offseason (for the Astros, not us): 1) No b****ing about Selig or Ike. 2) Go get a good pitcher. We don't care how. We're fans. Get us Sandy Koufax, or we're going to b**** about it. And Nolan Ryan and Steve Carlton, too. That's all we ask of you.
Understood, but I can't call any season with losing streaks like that a "great" season. The winning streaks were great, but they get offset by the long, miserable periods of top-to-bottom incompetence this team displayed. They took "streaky" to a whole new level.
It'll be a truly up in the air series. Neither team has anything to lose or gain at this point, so whoever plays slightly less sloppy shall win . WLW. Let's take some momentum into the offseason.
Well, WWW, I think we have play our make-up game with the Cubs and win to get into the post season...Hey, I can dream can't I...
on the night of the third game of this series, when the Stros sweep the Braves, I want somebody to make a huge sign, keeping it simple... 48-32*
F*king pessimist. WWW Great catch by that fan! Replays show he didn't steal the ball, it was wayy over the outfielder.
Wow, Bourn got home from 2nd on a sacrifice by Berkman. What a runner. I didn't know you could do 2 bases on a hit-and-run.
Frickin' Seth McClung pitches 4 innings and gives up 1 hit and no runs. The Cubs only get 1 off Suppan. Buzzkill. Season over.
Well, it was a nice ride. Too much to make up with too miraculous of a run needed, but overall it was still a victory considering what we we're looking at midseason. Let's go get us a top-tier pitcher and get back to work next season
It is the home record if they sweep the braves. The * is for the 2 they actually played in Milwaukee. BTW conspiracy theorists can now say the cubs payed Ol' Bud back by dropping the game to the Brewers. Lets see how the rest of that series goes.
I really hope we retain Backe. The guy is a GREAT clubhouse character, always cheerleading for the team from the dugout. And he's from Galveston isn't he? And his 19-10 record at home isn't too shaby either.
You know I've been somewhat of a Backe apologist over the years...pretty much because he's a hometown boy and had a couple great stints in the playoffs. But if you're evaluating this team in the offseason...then it should stand out that among the starting rotation, he has the highest ERA by far and the only one to have a losing record (not counting Chacon). If you look at the entire pitching staff, his performance would fit comfortablly with Chacon, Villareal, Borkowski, Hernandez and Nieve...how many of those guys are on the staff now or will be come next spring?
