While AE was hurt, why Bruntlett at SS & not Burke? Do you think the Astros based this on 1 error made in 1 game, or on Burke's skillset and *fundamentals* that they've seen firsthand for about 5 years now? What did you see when you watched Bruntlett play SS regularly? How's his footwork setting up to throw? How quick are his hands? What kinds of jumps does he get? Now that AE's healthy, why AE at SS and not Burke/Brunt? What do you think this tells you about how *the Astros* view these 3 players?

FuriousJam: do you expect AE to hit .200 from here out? Or do you expect him to get hot & work his average back to his career norm?

Lidge has looked great his last 3 outings...spotting the fastball well & the good ol' sharp breaking slider. Very promising.

Just realize that even though we've won 3 in a row, we are still 11-22 since our great start this year. I really hope this team doesn't have another 15-30 run this season again.

Let's hope Nieve feels good today.

Well the good thing about Nieve is he always seems to give a quality start. I think his ERA is high cause he doesnt last long into the game. So that's a little misleading. But for the 5 innings or so he is in the game, he only gives up a few runs; he gives the team a chance.

There are other places Burke needs to play right now. Willy has been garbage for the last month offensively, nearly as bad as Adam. Lane hasn't been much better. Why would the Astros try to let Burke learn on the job at SS when there are other (easier) positions for him to play and get at-bats from?

As for why AE at SS now and not Bruntlett, have you looked at Bruntlett's numbers this month? They're awful. Have you looked at his career numbers in the Astros' organization (minors)? They're not much better. His career minor league OPS is around .670, I believe. Unless Bruntlett's on a hot streak (and he certainly isn't now, look at his last week or so production), why would you take out arguably the best defensive glove at the position?

My argument was that if Bruntlett was hitting well, I feel his defense is/will be adequate enough to make routine plays and thus he'd be worth considering as an everyday starter. He's not hitting well now, however, so that point is moot and he shouldn't be playing.

You're reaching if you think you can honestly tell how the Astros view these 3 players by what's gone on the last couple of weeks. If there weren't other extremely logical positions for Burke to play... if Bruntlett were hitting at a decent clip... and the Astros still put Adam out there in his current offensive state, I'd agree with you. But neither of those scenarios are the case right now, so I'm not sure why this makes much of a point as to how the Astros view them defensively.

I still stand by my argument that Bruntlett is best used off-the bench. He provides the spark when the team needs it; just look at last year. When he's in the game, good things happen, but if he becomes an everyday starter, he'll come back down to earth.

I completely agree, especially if by "back down to earth" you mean sub .240.

Runners on the corners, 2 outs, and we have both of our pitchers up....

    ;)

And our first pitcher grounds out meekly to SS.
