Even Springer would be the fourth or fifth best batter on a lot of playoff teams

Springer is 8th in the AL in OPS among all outfielders and 5th in WAR. He is 12th in the entire AL in WAR and 27th in OPS. He would not be worse than 3rd on "a lot" of playoff teams.

Gurriel can't get here fast enough.

    Gomez can't leave soon enough.

Im not going to go through each team to refute that, but Springer being our 2nd or 3rd best batter is not the problem with this team.

I hate Reed not getting consistent ABs. Let him figure it out, White doesn't give you much of anything anyways.

    Challenge ACCEPTED!

Here are Springer's ranks (OPS and oWAR) on each of the "if the season ended today" playoff teams:

    OPS | oWAR
    -------------
    BAL 3RD | 2ND
    CLE 4TH | 4TH
    TEX 2ND | (t) 2ND
    TOR 4TH | 4TH
    DET 6TH | (t) 4TH

    AVG: 4TH | 3RD

    WSN 3RD | 2ND
    CHC 5TH | 5TH
    SFG 4TH | 3RD
    LAD 3RD | 3RD
    STL 5TH | 3RD

    AVG: 4TH | 3RD

VERDICT: Wrong! Also: Right! He'd be right around, on average, the 3rd/4th best hitter on each of this year's playoff teams. So... about where he is in Houston (planted firmly at #3, at the very least.)

No. Not the problem. My favorite Astro. He definitely brings more to the team than just his at bats. I'm just saying that ideally your DH and one or two other bats should be hitting better than .250.

I think you guys are asking the wrong question. Not where Springer would be, but where guys like Marisnick, Ramus, and Gomez.

    The answer:

And I said "a lot of the playoff teams" not all of them. His OPS ranks 4th or worse with CLE, TOR, DET, CHG, SFO, and STL.

Are we the first team in history that

    1) Currently has a winning record

    and

    2) starts a lineup with 3 players hitting above .223

    ??

Why is gomez hitting 6th when he is the worst hitter in baseball? Batters 5-9 tonight is just unbelievably bad.

Happ is 21-4 in his last 30 starts. Best record for a pitcher over that time. Yikes! (with our lineup, Double Yikes!)

i don't know we're going to do it, but we need to win this game. altuve goes 3/4, springer 2/5, correa 2/4, everyone else 0 for 10000.

^ I disagree. A platoon makes perfect since with Valbuena out. Reed still gets majority of the ABs and both face the type of pitching where they have the best chance to succeed and just see if one breaks through.
