Funny how things work out sometimes. Yesterday Correa went 0-2 with bases loaded, but today he knocks in the game winning run with a runner on first.
I wish they would have gave the win to Devo. Can't the official scorer give the win to a reliever who pitched 3+ innings in a winning effort even though they were not the pitcher of record at the time?
Correa just passed his games played from last year (99 - Tigers finale) and his numbers are pretty similar side by side. Biggest differences are less hits/HRs (-7), more walks (+14), and more SOs (+18). Funny enough he has more XBHs (+4 2B/3B). I still think he can get hot on HRs if pitchers are forced to pitch to him and he lays off the pitches down and away. Kid is a stud.
I knew someone was going to say that. Unfortunately the human condition is extremely complicated. Even though he makes 220 times more than I do what happen to him tonight was painful.
Why not just go with Giles, given that he fits the profile and is now obliterating everyone? He hasn't given up a run in well over a month, and is basically striking out everyone he faces.
Promoted players' struggling makes you appreciate guys who make it. Many players are highly touted, but you never know until the pro-line is crossed. Regarding 2B/3B, Correa has hit many balls off the wall on the fly... including tonight's game winner.
What's the record post count for regular season series? I imagine the 4-game s***fest @TEX last season was it.
If the three toughest batters are coming up in the 8th inning then you might need Giles there in that situation like you did tonight. Would Harris have done any better in the 8th? That doesn't mean Giles doesn't close most nights just that he might be needed at other times.
Top of order or not, it's painfully obvious that Harris struggles in the 9th, much like Gregerson did... While having no problem with the less pressurized 8th. Fans also underestimate how hitters approaches change in the 9th as well. You don't think they're a little bit more keyed in vs an earlier inning at bat? Lastly, you have the mental component. Certainly, Giles could struggle again there... But I do feel his problems earlier were also physical, as he's got much more life on his stuff now. He also has the track record of doing it before. M At this point, not only is there no other decent options... But he's far and away the best Astros reliever right now.
