A statement made BEFORE we knew we were going to be without JJ Watt all season long. Before we knew we were going to be without starting right tackle Derek Newton, before we knew we were going to be without Kevin Johnson, before we knew we were going to be without Braxton Miller, before we knew we were going to be without Jalen Strong, before we knew we were going to be without safeties Kurtis Drummond, Lonnie Ballentine, and KJ Dillon. A statement made before we knew that Osweiler would be benched. A statement made before we knew we'd be without John Simon for most of the year, before we knew Nuk Hopkins would play poorly nearly the entire season, before we knew that Fuller would struggle with catching passes with his baby hands and with injuries for a lot of the season.

The Texans have been through A LOT this season, and still managed to get to 9-6 heading into the last game of the season with the division already wrapped up. That's pretty amazing all things considered.

Is that Bill's version of "No 7-9 bullshit."? :D

I'm not ****ing going 9-7. This team is too talented. I'm not going to settle for that. I know what I'm doing.

So is it that you think the Chiefs are going to lose to the Chargers or is it that you think the Raiders are going to beat the Broncos? Because if neither of those things happen, the Texans play the Raiders in the first round.

i think the Chief pose a very tough matchup. Getting into the 2nd round of the playoffs would be a tremendous season, considering all of the injuries.

As long as the defense holds its ground, the Texans have a fighting chance against anyone, even with the horrid QB play.

Yet, the national narrative is that we're the worst division winner of all time and the worst (possible) 10-6 team of all time.

It's sad how bad this defense gets overlooked (nationally). Same song, different verse I suppose.

The narrative on here all season long was how the Texans defense was not good enough from certain fans.

If you paid attention (which I'm sure you didn't) the defense got better over the course of the season. The defense hasn't allowed over 20 points since the Packers game, that's 3 weeks in a row doing something that's happened what? 6 times all season, 2 of which being with JJ Watt on the field.

Amazingly, just as I said they would, the Texans won all 3 of those games where the defense stepped up. They'll continue to win games where the defense gives up fewer than 20 points.

When you try to "prove me wrong" you just end up embarrassing yourself so you might as well stop. It's just an unhealthy obsession at this point.

Regarding the grand "narrative" that the Texans aren't that good...

You are what your record says you are. Just kinda weird to me that O'Brien can yank the reigns so hard, play so conservatively, win super uggo games AND be salty about it. Like he isn't the one saying they have to be better, it's an improvement league, 9-7 isn't the goal, etc.

    It's a disaster.

Greg Koch from 790 just said rooting for the AFC team or the Cowboys would be a tough decision for Houston.

That's the easiest decision in the history of decisions.

The defense being better the last 3 games doesn't mean that it wasn't really good before. Look at the tweet, we haven't given up a 300 yard passer all season and lead the NFL in yards/game

those stats don't come from 3 games.

Teams don't often pass the ball all that much when they are already winning.....especially when they are able to run the ball. Anyway, there's a reason why any competent person ranks defenses by points given up instead of yards for what should be obvious reasons. Who cares if you give up a 300 yard passer if you are giving up a lot of points? The league average is 22.8 points per game, the Texans give up 20.3, so overall slightly better than average, and the games between JJ going out and the last 3 games they were giving up an average of 22.1 points per game....so basically average.

Like I said, they need the defense to be better than average to have success, the defense performed better than average the last 3 games, and they've won them. Hell if you take the last 3 games and the first 2 with JJ, the Texans only gave up 14.6 points per game.....and unsurprisingly they lost none of them. The team won't lose many games when the defense is performing like they need them to. That's how this team was set up, win with defense and the run game. Sure that's a lot harder given all the injuries to the defense and the O line, but it's how the team is built. It's what has to happen to win.

I'm seriously considering leaving for the week if the Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl here (assuming they aren't playing the Texans).
