Not sure what all the talk on Javier is about, but there haven't been that many pitchers that have pitched better than him this season that aren't Astros or Dodgers.

Why is every thread being taken over by some asinine MB take that people choose to go back/forth with him about incessantly?

At this point ignore won’t work… makes the threads virtually unreadable.

Define the "record". You're describing an opinion, so I don't think you can have the record for "best control pitcher".

If the Astros go 7-8 the rest of the way, the Yankees would have to go 16-0 to get the 1 seed.

Keep in mind you're arguing with someone who thinks baseball games should be shorter, but taking away dead time where nothing is happening is also a bad thing because the ratio of commercial time goes up (never mind that the ratio of interesting things happening also goes up).

Agreed. The one take is bad enough but to have another poster basically following him around asking for him to explain himself and debating him on all his bad takes is downright annoying and asinine.

The season isn’t over, but regardless of what happens this has been one of the most enjoyable seasons for me watching the Astros.

Seeing Verlander return at the same or even better than before, watching him cement himself as the best overall pitcher of his era. Reminds me of watching Clemens and Ryan pitch well into their 40’s.

Seeing a very unique talent like Framber Valdez put it all together and put the injury behind him. He has really stepped up into a co-ace role. I know there are a lot of advanced stats, but the consistency of Valdez shouldn’t be over looked. He has given a quality start over 90% of his games this year.

Christian Javier has more room to improve but at times has looked close to becoming a Cy Young pitcher. Brown has looked good called up.

The pen has been excellent and is the deepest in Astros history.

Altuve had a strong bounce back year. When healthy Yordan has been prime David Ortiz crossed with Willie McCovey. Bregman bounced back too.

No real scandals and fairly consistent.

Given that most of the angst as fans comes from manager decisions on pitching changes… either when to take out a starter, or what sequence of bullpen pitchers should be called upon… there’s no doubt this season has been very enjoyable from the standpoint that the pitching has basically been on auto-pilot/manager-proof all year.

Dusty has definitely managed the pitching well… especially when he was able to rehab Montero’s confidence… but he also has the luxury of so many inter-changeable bullpen roles, and a bullpen that has pitched the least in the majors thanks to the great starting pitching.

Thus most of the angst this year has been over the day-to-day lineup… and that’s always a good thing if that’s the team’s biggest issue.

Hmm, really? Never thought of it that way. First one that comes to mind is Lidge, Dotel, Wagner. Helps when the starters have been such horses, but the pen has been very solid overall though.

That and the erroneous reporting of injuries.

2019 had all those players and the top 2 vote getters in the AL CY Young race and still somehow managed to blow the world series (thank you AJ Hinch for ruining JV on 3 days rest on an unforced error vs Tampa up 2 games to 1). I'll forever blame you.

You are the king/queen of ignoring small sample size.
5 total games as a reliever.
1 three days rest 3 innings
1 four days rest 3 innings
1 five days rest 3 innings
2 six plus days rest 5.1 innings.

He was an effective Starter used from the bull pen. That doesn't make him an effective reliever who should be available with minimal rest between starts.

I am not arguing he isn't an effective STARTER when used out of the bull pen. And I think you KNOW that. You pick up on clues pretty easily and I have no doubt you know the difference between the role of a starter and one of a reliever. You obviously are not confused by the difference between an Opener and a true Starter, even though the Opener STARTS the game or a reliever when he starts a Bull Pen game.

I'm complaining about all those who assume Javier should be sent to the Bull Pen because he didn't blow up when STARTING out of the bullpen. When you need starters rest between starts, you are a STARTER. He is the counterpart of the OPENER when a Reliever Starts.

Do you know why they've been so consistent and great this year? Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ my friend. He will never let us down. With Jesus on our side, we are a shoe - in for WS ring #2 .
