Thank god I'm out of the country and can mostly bury this away.

    Until tomorrow at least.

We had the arms, we had VV and Feliz but we did not develop them for the job, as Toronto did with Osuna and Texas with Kela.

I had said for a long time that we needed those 2 arms as our bullpen where finess guys that i did not trust. Our 2 power arms were only used to finish games ahead by 5 runs or more, or as long man relievers.
Now, we can't do anything and just watch our beloved Astros miss the playoffs.

Thank you Hinch for not SEEING what many of us saw, that our bullpen was not good enough.

And by the way, i've said that i don't like Neshek in the 8th inning, I am on record.

When you start a series, you need to have a plan, Rangers did it with us, they brought a guy to pitch Sunday so they could move Hamels against us on Monday, then move Holland to face McHugh instead of K, and things like that.

If you prepare with the Astros, when Correa was hitting, not anymore, .254 with a .395 slugging in last 30 games, or .259 with a .444 slugging in last 7, you would say, pitch around the guy, i don't care if you walk him as they don't have a number 4 hitter.

Now Oakland, with Vogt injured, they don't have a guy to protect Valencia, so why pitch to him???? Manager should tell pitchers, don't throw a strike to that guy, we are in a small ballpark, and last 30 games the guy has 8 homers. Multiply that by 5 and the guy is on a 40 homer pace. Why pitch to him???? Would you pitch to Batista if you don't have to???? Yes, Valencia is on that pace, especially against us.

If Lawrie beats you, then is NOT the managers fault, is the pitcher, but i don't feel as Hinch puts players in the right situation to succeed.

Thats why we lose so many 1 run games.
Is not the same, but a coach in basketball says if i lose by 1 to 3 points is my fault, when is a manager responsible for loses???? 1 run games????

Yes, i know there is a forum member that loves Hinch, and will say i am $#$%^, but, is not time to be blind with our team, is time to be realistic, and SO FAR, they are choking.

Before this debacle we were all saying, including me that Hinch was going to win manager of the year in AL (eventough i've been saying we are playing average for a long time) because the manager will get the credit with success on the team, but when the team is choking, we blame the players???

Some members will say, no we are not choking we are young. Well, then my response is, we CHOKED BECAUSE WE ARE YOUNG.

If it happens again, then WE CHOKED BECAUSE WE ARE BAD.

But, the manager will always be RESPONSIBLE, especially if we lose so many 1 run games.

Yea I know we are lined up to be good for years. But that does not make this collapse taste any better. This horrid string of games is so frustrating.. Rangers are peaking at the right time where the stros already shot their wad. Ugg

Again "smart guy", thats my point. The first 2 months of the season they played over their heads

But the last 4 months they have been pretty much what they really are - mediocre to bad

Crybaby fans on this board like yourself are either too young or haven't watched enough baseball to accept that

How pathetic has this fan base become to criticize a man for wanting to spend a couple of days with his newborn baby. That is just disgusting.

    he's going on 4 days.

if he said he wanted to spend the rest of the season with his newborn baby, would you be fine with that? if the answer is yes, would you still call people who criticize the decision "disgusting"?

simple questions, easy yes or no answers (i always include this when i know posters aren't going to respond yes or no, and add some sort of justification).

It's not just the hot start and mediocre rest of season

It's the way we have gotten here. The lights out winning at home and can't win anything on the road is hard to explain. It's not like the young kids should be more comfortable at home...hard to figure out the extreme splits of this team home and road

If it was just a streaky team, that would be easy to explain with so much all or nothing in the everyday lineup

Cardpire, i think you are right on this issue. Now, we don't know the facts, if there were complications or things like that then he has all the right of this world to stay there with the family, but if everything is right, and i hope to God that everything is right, then he took too long when we are fighting for a playoff spot.

He's guaranteed 3 days according to MLB rules. Frankly I'd say up to 7 days would be perfectly reasonable. So no, I wouldn't be okay with him missing the rest of the season unless there were some extenuating circumstances.

I'm going with a reasonable hypothesis that he's a competitive guy if he's played professional sports for so long, and he wouldn't miss more than 2-3 days unless he needed to.

i.e. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt given that we can't ever really know the personal/family details

cool, so that's your opinion. i have mine. in my opinion, he shouldn't miss more than 2 games in this situation unless there are extenuating circumstances.

if you think it's perfectly fine for him to miss an infinite amount of time, that's one thing, but you aren't the arbiter on how much time is reasonable for him to miss. you can't pick a finite time, then call anybody who thinks it should be less "sickening", while also saying it isn't reasonable for him to take more time than your arbitrary "up to 7 days".

What was the damn point in calling up Matt Duffy and making it harder for Fresno to win the PCL if he's not being used here?
