I think we are selling the Orioles short. They are on pace to easily get to 100 wins, the 2015 Astros barely snuck into the playoffs by beating the Yankees in a winner go home play in game.
France could use some load management because he's already thrown his career-high IP. His move to the bullpen is temporary depending on Urquidy and Javier's results. Best scenario would've been keeping JP as a starter but limiting his PC and have Urquidy in long relief twice a week. Javier should be on deck for a vacation if he doesn't pitch well soon.
This - and it is smart. They can loosely tandem start them or they can skip France every other start. I think loose tandem starting is smart. If France wasn’t approaching a career high in innings, he would be in the rotation.
Enjoyed listening to radio again on the way home today. Game felt over early, but then felt like Astros defense/pitching was going to be shaky all game. Glad Meyers went yard twice.
Dusty is a lot more willing to defer on pitching than hitting - plus, everyone knows Baker thinks Maldonado walks on water.
The Orioles are the 2017 Astros… but they didn’t trade for an ace at the 2nd deadline, although Flaherty was very good in his debut. Orioles fans weren’t happy with their deadline. Also the Astros were the 2nd wild card in 2015… counts as making the playoffs even if they had lost the game to the Yankees (which they didn’t… and had they played now, it would be a best of 3 series).
Meyers has played in 84 games this year surpassing each of the past 2 seasons? It doesn't feel like that. Would be sexy if he regains what that outfield wall in Chi took from him and puts up a .900 OPS in 2024.
Only division winners can get byes. And seeds/brackets/matchups are all fixed. MLB wants to preserve that. We saw the ramifications of such in 2001 when SF-LA (two best records in the NL) met in the NLDS and played an epic 5 game series. Should have been the NLCS.
Ok I was wondering if it was just me. I cant stand him for some reason.. plays with that mouth guard more than Steph Curry
Rangers swept the Guardians and White Sox, 2 subpar teams the Astros struggled against. That's the difference in the standings now.
Yes but we also lost 3 out of 4 at their house and a couple of those we just blew and were very winnable.
Mariners had an impressive 4 game sweep of the Angels in LA. This division is going to be tough down the stretch.
