He knows how to bear hug players, but the formulas to winning the whole season is a big ?. Last year, we lost a lot of extra-inning games and those are managerial decisions that win and lose games. It wouldn't surprise me if he does a Tony LaRussa blunder this year.
No game today I has the sads. Just like I don't get Dusty sometimes, I don't get how sports fans that don't like baseball/ futbol can get through a summer. I feel sorry for their mamas.
With some of the reactions in game threads, I don't get how sports fans that DO like baseball can get through a summer.
Last year, the Astros were 9-8 in extra innings games. By comparison (other playoff teams): Rays: 7-12 Yankees: 10-8 White Sox: 5-6 World-Series-Winning-Braves: 5-9 Dodgers: 6-12 Giants: 9-9 Brewers: 10-8 The only playoff teams that were really good in extras were the Red Sox (10-5) and Cardinals (7-2). Meanwhile, the Pirates and Tigers also had winning records in extra innings.
Extra innings games are usually between 2 teams that are essentially equal on that given day. We all know that even the best teams are not the best in 50+ of their games every year. The worst teams are still better than their opponent in 50+ games. Anything in baseball that is Pared down to a detail like a single plate appearance, a single inning, etc is about as close as you can get to unpredictable and subject to luck and any other random factor. Winning an extra inning game is very dependent on random things like who the auto runner is, where you are in your lineup and how rested the bullpen is. And how the ball bounces.
Before Verlander got here, I thought he was a curmudgeon. I never kept up with the Tigers. Ken Griffey jr was the last baseball player from another team that I would go out of my way to catch interviews of. Here is the cool Verlander having fun with the fans again. Kate is a lucky woman!
Yea there aren’t many of them, but most of them would defend literally every move he makes. The dude has the right demeanor for a long season and all that goes into it, and I’m sure most of the players like him. But his baseball decisions are really bad, and those catch up to you in a short series (playoffs) That’s really not just an opinion, his lifetime record has also played out that way I hope he overcomes himself and wins one this year though
I'm not typically a fan of Dusty's line ups, but Sunday was an exception. So he bungled the in game decisions. But on the bright side, we welcome the return of Meyers and Pena this series. And maybe signs of life from Yuli's bat.
The '95 Astros were 22-23 in 1-run-games, which seems to me an absurd amount of 1-run-games. They finished 1 game out of the postseason. Somebody mentioned Scott Servais so looked up that team.
Would it be inappropriate to throw opened letters and inflatable bullpen phones onto the field on Thursday?
