I always thought the new rule was that you had to at least keep a hand on the bag at all times. Maybe he held on to the bag? Didn't get a good look.

 

Springer went past the bag and didn't keep any part of himself on it. Last night, they used that to call the runner going to 1st out. This wasn't as egregious of a takeout or going past the bag, nor was there a throw or a close play (or a play at all) at 1st.

But by the letter, I believe they could have called it. And maybe challenged it if it was reviewable
