At least one of those first 2 strike calls was BS. I'm not sure about the last one. Either way, it looks like Pettitte will get #200 with the Yanks against the Stros. Jeter did everything he could to keep us in that inning with that horrible error. He had an easy DP. Bourn made an awesome catch in the previous inning.
I've seen at least 2 real questionable strike calls go against us in the last 2 innings. I haven't watched the whole game or paid close enough attention to see if our pitchers were getting the same calls.
Tough luck loss but good to see Myers continue to increase his trade value and Manzella playing good ball.
Myers is going to make a contender very happy, looks like his injury issues are past him. IF or when Wandy picks it up and if Norris can find some consistency the starting rotation could be REAL strong yet all for not in the end minus trade value.
I don't think Myers has as much trade value as one might thing at first. If someone trades for him as a trade deadline rental, in addition to the (small) remainder of this year's salary, they are going to have to pay the $3 million buyout for next year's mutual option. $3 million is roughly a team would pay in salary by trading for Cliff Lee at the trade deadline. I like Myers, but if you are looking for a rental, if you are going to pay the same out-of-pocket prorated $9 mil/year salary for either Lee or Myers... When you factor in Myer's personal baggage, I think it will really hurt what the Astros could get back for him. It wouldn't surprise me if the team doesn't trade him at the deadline. If you can't really get anything significant at all back for him, it might make more sense just to pay him to pitch for you.
Is anyone really thinking Myers will bring in the farm? I'm personally happy with a B-level prospect in AA/AAA or A-level prospect in High A for him. He has baggage, but it's not like pitching-needy contenders have a lot of options to choose from come trade deadline. His cost is still likely less than other available pitchers. Pitch for what? An extra 2-3 wins at the end of the regular season? We're not talking Roger Clemens here, who's good for some ticket sales all by himself. And he might cost us draft position. Not that it matters much in baseball, but you never know.
It does if either party declines the option. You can still offer arbitration after declining an option.
Currently has the worst WHIP of his career. He hasn't been bad like this since 2006. No telling for sure whats wrong with him. Maybe the move to Arnsberg has had a negative effect on him.
If he pitches well, why would he decline? He's old, so no team will give him a juicy long term contract elsewhere. Arbitration for FA tends to overprice them.
