Meyers hasn’t shown that he is better in the field. And that drop the other night was not “special”. Chas plays the position with more confidence. Meyers has not shown himself to be more “special” than Chas to this point.
Chas and Meyers both play a quality CF... neither is in there solely for defense, and neither comes close to the truly elite outfielders we've seen here in prior years... but both have a pretty set role as far as being utilized (and hopefully just keeping the spot warm for whenever Gilbert is truly ready). yeah, I was talking about Marisnick. Also I would guess Tucker would likely be able to play an elite CF if he wasn’t such an elite RF (Same went for Springer).
According to baseball savant, they are extremely close. Overall CF only career stats Jake 272 successful plays in 295 attempts. Chas 222 successful plays in 234 attempts. Jake 92.2% vs expected 87.5%= +4.5% Chas 94.4% vs expected 89.7%=+4.7% Jake 14 OAA in 295 attempts = 4.75% Chas 11 OAA in 234 attempts = 4.70% 2+ star catches (90% or less likely) all positions Jake 47 out of 71 chances 66.2% Chas 67 out of 102 chances 65.7% Jake avg 36.03 ft per attempt. Chas avg 35.95 ft per attempt. That looks very close and much closer that I was expecting.
Chas HAS earned it. He earned it last post season. They are extremely similar players. Too similar I think. I think trading Jake ( or Chas) and mid level prospects for an established starting pitcher who can slide in to the top 3 spots makes this team better than having both of them.
Drew Gilbert, Melton, Clifford they are all Impressive. Melton looks alot like Luis Gonzalez with his Batting Stance.
