the American league should allow the hitter that reached base, to hit again and have a pinch runner to take his place on the bases. that way correa can bat for correa after correa reaches base! brilliant.
Going to need more than 1 run to win this game.... VV also with some mild control issues that is going to force him to leave this game sooner rather than later.
Cosart got us Marisnick, Moran and the pick that came to be Cameron. Santana and Singleton are having plus seasons at AAA. I'm not sure on the last guy, I think Zeid but we didn't expect much to begin with. Hard to not be happy with that trade, even still.
I said "starting to lose its luster"... meaning if you made that same trade today, people would not be as gaga over it (at the time, Cosart was the next Oswalt, Singleton was the next Howard/Berkman/Bagwell all in one, and Santana was the next 2000-era Hidalgo... of course, that was how STARVED this team was of actual prospects). It was still a good trade... a much needed trade... however I neither see it setting the Phillies back nor do I see it as a "key" to the Astros rebuild.
Hitting 97 in the 5th after 88 pitches. Impressive. This reminds me a lot of McCullers's first start - deep counts, several walks, high pitch count early. I think it's only jitters. Besides the pitch count, I'm extremely impressed. Dirty stuff and three very solid pitches.
Hes done a good job keeping the ball down and the few times he hasnt its been off the plate. Good debut. No real walk issues in the minors so this is an encouraging start. Touched 97 on the last batter and we now have 2 honest to goodness power pitchers in the rotation.
Probably done for the night. Gonna need to be a little sharper and get quicker outs moving forward. But for a first start and all the stuff that comes with it, a great debut.
If we make the playoffs, it would be great to sandwich Keuchel between our two flamethrowers. Let them deal with McCullers's heat in game 1, then deal with Keuchel's off-speed funk, then hit them right back with Velasquez's heat. Would be tough to deal with.
agreed. Some control issues but that is probably due to nerves. Otherwise, he left a big fat goose egg up there so zero complaints and 5 K0 in 5 innings is nice.
More than impressive... starting to become common-place to expect these sort of performances from KIDS. Reminds me of 2001 when every callup (Oswalt, Hernandez) looked great... and then people were surprised/dissapointed when Redding looked 'meh' (when really that's how rookies "normally" end up looking). Unfortunately, Quintana has now looked "better than expected" against this team two starts in a row.
