After seeing Carter crush that, I'd love to see him start swinging at more low FBs. He's had so many called strikes at the knees this season it is ridiculous. Swing at those, and quit swinging at the sliders in the dirt.
Nice to see Lyles go into IDGAF mode... And let er rip. Out of all the young starting pitcher talent at the majors and minors, at least one of them will be converted to closer (Lidge and Wagner were starters in the minors as well).
I was more shocked than Garcia that Lyles struck him out. I can't believe the Astros have won 3/4, although they have played 2 terrible teams.
Just about all top-level talents are starters in the minors, whether the team projects them to be relievers or not. It's a matter of getting them consistent innings while they're developing.
Agreed. They still had Lidge make some MLB starts in his debut. Same went with Dotel. There are few that are "destined" to be closers, but some definitely figure it out after being a failed starter. Not saying they should give up on Lyles in that role... but it was nice to see him throw as fast as he possibly can.
Probably time to move him down in the lineup. Hitting in front of Castro doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
