Tough game tonight...Happ pitched well enough but Mosley was great tonight. Pads bullpen is TOUGH so it will take a heck of a rally.

    First of many necessary moves...

Next should be Towles to the minors when Q gets back.

I'm not surprised it ended up being Hall, since they likely preferred to keep a 2nd SS on the roster. I actually think they should cut Sanchez in favor of Tommy Manzella.

Hah they cut Hall because he was gawd-awful terrible. He literally had no redeeming aspects to his game this season: no power, no defense, ridiculous K rate.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Tommy is doing well at OKC. Do you think it'd be better for him to ride the pine behind Barmes/Keppinger this year or play full-time at AAA this year and win one of those spots out of ST next year? It could go either way for me.

We got 3 new guys this winter: Inglett, Hall, and Barmes. One is still with us. I'd say this shows Ed Wade is batting a respectable .333.

    OMG that's a brilliant website:

We're still on pace to win 55 games this season, which is more than the Rockets (43) and Texans (6) *combined*. #Astros #bestownerinhouston

I hope that's just pandering for Crane's sake because Ed Wade comes off looking like an idiot two-fold. 1st for signing Bill Hall in the first place, 2nd for apologizing for cutting a negative value player (-0.9 WAR). Hall's contract is a sunk cost to Crane anyway.

I don't understand why they didn't just DFA Hall which would allowed them 10 days to cut him or trade him. Some infielder on a contender could have got hurt in those 10 days and they could be interested in Hall as a reserve. You still would have to pay his salary for a team to take him off your hands but at least you got a prospect out of it. Astros DFA Pedro Feliz last year and got David Carpenter out of it who is on the 40 man roster now and the closer at OKC with a ERA of zero. Hall has been terrible so far but as a reserve he has value because of his versatility to play any position.

The Astros front office probably did it because he was a veteran player who took a chance signing here. This way Hall's not in limbo for 10 days and can choose his next team.

Come to think of it you're right, I have no idea why they'd treat Hall differently than Feliz.

Wade: Hall’s brief Astros tenure represents ‘a failure in judgment’ http://bit.ly/jAyQzy

Just a slight error in judgement.

i really don't think it was the worst signing in the world. we didn't have a 2nd baseman going into the season. kepp was out an indefinite amount of time, and he took a chance on hall for one year, relatively cheaply. he was even ****tier than anybody thought he would be.

at least they cut their losses early. took them 3 years to realize how crappy matsui was.

Wade missed badly on Hall but Barmus is starting to look like one of his good moves. Offense has been getting better and better and defense has been great minus the game in Toronto.

Only thing I'll say about Towles is that he is atleast making contact when he makes outs instead of being embarrased by the opposing pitchers.

You're exactly right. It's sad that his making contact is a big improvement over where he was, but it's true. In his first full time stint with the Astros, I have never seen a player so overmatched all the time.

The one guy that might be next on the chopping block is Jason Michaels. In all fairness, he has been hurt and only has 41 abs but he's been horrible. With guys like J.B. Shuck and Brandon Barnes in OKC ready to make the leap and be 4th outfielders, Michaels could be the next one to go.
