Pretty clear there is one too many players on this roster. Not enough spots to go around and it’s causing Espada to mismanage the lineup and preventing the front office from getting good info on their unproven/questionable players. Need to pick 9 guys (my preference would be Smith, Rodgers, and McCormick) + a backup OF (Meyers), backup IF (Dubon), and Caratini and have a 13th guy who doesn’t need/expect to play (somebody like Hummel or Short). Dezenzo would probably be much better off in AAA playing everyday and waiting for an everyday spot to open up (and maybe even learning to play 2B).
Chas is one of only two Astros (Altuve) hitting his weight right now, and he's a guy trying to rebound his way into being an everyday starter, and yet he's in the dugout today for no discernable reason.
Agree It's way too early to say he is back or he isn't or whatever But we are struggling mightily on offense and he is one of the few that has had some good at bats. Play the MF
Dezenzo getting everyday reps at 2b would be nice as a backup plan in AAA right now. I'd have Matthews as the every day CF. Melton doesn't need to play any more CF- he needs to prove he can mash RHP. That gives you 3 guys getting reps for the 2 spots most likely to need a replacement 6 weeks from now...
Brown loves him some JV. As soon as JV was gone, he snagged JV's personal centerfielder. Is Maldy available to sign to catch today? I'm fine with Espada trying different lineups, giving guys rest. The Astros have 2 defensive CFs. Dubon just isn't a good enough hitter that he should play CF over either Meyers or Chas. Maybe both Chas and Meyees are dealing with something.
Let's be honest. Dubon is easily one of the best 300-position players in baseball and is worthy of a spot on an MLB roster. I dislike him in CF, but he's quite slick on the grass.
But then they'd do this throughout the season. They only seem to do it in the first couple of weeks each season.
Someone needs to take the sharpie away from Espada. It is like a week into the season, and he is trotting out a different line up every damn game. This is nonsense. Dubon is a fine utility player but he doesn't need to be starting in centerfield. Put McCormick in centerfield because he at least has upside, there is none to Dubon. Just so incredibly dumb -
Correct. MLB knows it takes time for pitchers to get up to speed, and typically try to give rest days early and often to allow teams more flexibility on handling pitchers.
A month ago, people were saying an Astros' OF of Chas and Meyers was unplayable and the worst in the majors and the Astros needed to make trades for outfielders. Now we have too many?
