Along those lines, Minnesota's Willians Astudillo is a fascinating player. In 49 ABs this year, he's walked once and struckout once. He basically always puts the ball in play, and apparently it's not a fluke - he did the same in the minors.
The people on the effectively wild podcast are obsessed with that guy. Seems like he’s mentioned in most of the podcasts. Total anti-three true outcomes guy. Apparently he’s got a bad baseball body like Ty White but has been played all over the field including corner outfield, infield and catcher. It’s refreshing to see non-Buxton looking guys get PA’s.
Willians is so fun to watch, love that guy. Shame he tweaked his hammy and we don't get to see him this series. Tortuga is *generously* listed at 5'9", 225 Last year in 97 PAs he walked twice and struck out 3 times.
For me, he's just a reminder on how much more fun the game was when more balls were put in play. I think at some point, teams are going to try to find more guys like him as power won't be able to overcome the Ks forever.
The first WS that really stuck with me was the Royals-Cardinals. Fun baseball. eta: that '16 Royals team reminded me of that.
In a rubber match like this, for all the marbles, all you can think about is what happened to Opie's mother?
Fun early mostly useless fact that does bear watching: Chirinos: 2.87 ERA (over twice the innings as...) Stassi: 4.56 ERA
Would have been fun to watch White try to make that play...if he fell over fast enough his gut might have stopped that ball.
