Stros are built for the long haul. They're mostly young, their youth will likely only improve, and they're mostly all under control for 3+ years. It would take a serious rash of injuries to stop them, but then again, that will stop any team.
If Keuchel is truly in Cy Young form, as he is, then I'm willing to convert from seeing them as a playoff perennial to a world series caliber team, with a world series caliber lineup for the first time, and an above average pitching staff stocked with the ace they need. Baserunning in big games was an issue before. And closing has been inconsistent historically. But feel both of those were addressed as best we can. Those seemed to be the weak areas remaining. But also still concerned about how long Beltran will be with us as he's not likely in it for the long haul. That said, I'm sold right now that they can do it this year.
I mean last year half the team was batting under .220. This year nobody in below .250. What a difference. Team batting average up almost 25 points with Altuve less than normal.
I was jabbing the posters who can't muster the strength to say it's better to have more traffic, than have a losing squad. It's like we're LeBron and our division is the East.
Astros are brutalizing other teams. Still not getting much national media attention which is fine. Everything works its way to the playoffs, and it is a really, really long season. I hope it stays as enjoyable as it is now.
Just went over to the espn MLB page to catch some commentary and you wouldn't even know the Astros played a game today... outside of the score on the top header, there is ZERO mention of the game. Zilch. Zip. Nada. Scrolled all the way to the bottom of the page and nary a word about it. I try not to buy into the whole media conspiracy thing but you'd actually have to go waaaay outta your way to not make any mention of today's game. Even weirder because sport center definitely covered it relatively well all things considered.
F-ing Judge hitting a HR toay gets more commentary. Media turning this kid into the most amazing thing going on in baseball. **** the Stankees.
They do keep getting picked #1 in their power poll even after the 3 game debacle to Cleveland. But as you wrote, no real mention of the game. There was a blurb about it while games were still ongoing yesterday, but today it is - Harper - Trout - Yankees - Red Sox at the top of their baseball page.
MLB.com usually gives us a lot of love, Richard Justice has written a couple great features in the last couple days on how much fun this team is. Also, MLB Network typically gives us our just due as well.
