I totally forgot they were playing this morning. I was pissed last night when they were down five, but the rain delay gave me hope. I just lol'ed when I saw the score 16-5. Good stuff. Keep it going Stros!

Are you asking if a pitcher can pinch hit? Yes, it doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I know Mike Hampton had done it a time or two, I think more recently Bumgarner has done it.

I could see a team use a closer in both games of a double header, especially if the team is in a pennant race.

I think the question is if pitchers out of the bullpen have been used in both games of a double-header, and the answer is yes. In fact, I think closers have recorded 2 saves in a double-header, so I wouldn't call it unheard of by any means.

Did the game from last night rain delay not count as a loss?

Nope, the Astros got Rangers-type luck last night.

yes, this answer. I think Melancon may have done it this year while still on the Pirates?

Both Fernando Rodney and Oh from the Cards have recorded 2 saves in one day this year.

More to your point, Sipp has been essentially worthless as a situational lefty this year.

As far as I can tell, the last guy to win both games of a doubleheader was Luis Vizcaino for the Yankees in '07, both wins came in relief. 2 complete game wins on the same day, something that we'll never see again, hasn't happened since 1926

I know the division seems bleak, but I still enjoy when the Rangers lose...they had come back from a deficit again (and still can), but this rookie Dahl is absolutely raking for the Rockies. Had a good at bat to draw a bases loaded walk on a full count then CarGo clears the bases with a double. The Rockies could have honestly won all 4 games this series if not for their incompetent bullpen.

Eight of HOU's first 12 runs were with 2 outs. There may've been more after 12, but I heard the stat at 12.

    Astros had a season-high 19 hits Game 1.

Altuve notched his 8th* 4-hit game this season, 20th* of his career. He has never had 5 hits in a single game, YET.

Altuve is now hitting .438* on the road this season  What's the MLB record?

Today is the 255th doubleheader in franchise history... first against an AL squad.

    Tuve-log

Good call... 20th career 4-hitter.... but hey, my 12-count pre-'16 could be wrong

Did White PH because Springer was injured or was it just to rest him for tonight?

Did Jake get injured in Game 1?

How the hell is Tucker in the field and he isn't for game 2?

Altuve has the 2nd highest single season batting average of any single season by any active player. (the number one season higher is from ichiro suzuki)

    Altuve is pretty good.

Astros alway seem to play better during day games. Maybe they should just change the start times for all remaining games possible.

To be fair to the baseball gods (they are a fickle bunch)... the game they just played was always scheduled for noon, with those same starting pitchers.

The game starting in 30 minutes is the makeup for last night... that is the game where if they win, they'd really have gotten some payback for all the bad weather luck over the years.
