I can't believe that Erik Bedard is the last man standing in this rotation.

Nice hitting from Matty D and Robbie Grossman.

Grossman has played well since he got called back up. That's nice to see.

Jeez, at this point I think we could bring in an in his prime Lee Smith and he would give up a lead for us . . .Bullpen=Disaster

Brian Dozier has officially been inducted into the pantheon of Astros killers.

I wonder if they're going to put Bedard through waivers, see if he's claimed. He's pitched well, I have to think someone would give up an A ball prospect for him.

At this point, anything for him is good. I want to see what the young guys can do in the rotation rather than him.

mentioned this during the trade deadline...

hard to imagine the return being good since we weren't able to unload him at the non-waiver deadline, in which case, i wouldn't take junk just for the sake of getting something. i'd rather re-up on the cheap, if possible, and rinse, repeat, and try again with him next year. hopefully, he either continues to build on his return to form, build value, and we can flip him for something undoubtedly better than what could be had right now, or, who knows...maybe we're competitive next year, in which case, a cheap, capable, veteran (not to mention lefty) would not hurt at all to have.

as fun as the future of the pitching staff is to dream about, other than presumably cosart (and lyles...maybe?), we have no slots in the rotation locked down for 2014. i'd be more than fine keeping him around cheaply to add some stability as we transition into our young staff.

I would agree with this but his age and injury history suggest he's going to break down soon. He hasn't pitched more than 130 innings since he was 28 years old and he's already at 125 right now.

That, combined with the fact that he was missing a start with a sore arm on trade deadline day, is probably one of the main reasons no one made a move for him

This is the 2014 rotation I'd like to see.

    Cosart
    Lyles
    Wojciechowski
    Peacock
    Oberholtzer

Hopefully Appel will be on the fast track and Foltynewicz will also get up here at some point next year.
