That's something that Puma does defensively as well as any 1st baseman in the league: picking up balls out of the dirt.
Matsui had a couple of real nice plays over the last few games as well. Tejada, too. Unfortunately, we mixed in too many bad defensive plays going back to the Rangers series.
i've said it before... sucking, making errors, grounding into dp's, whatever...you gotta love tejada's enthusiasm and passion for the game, especially at age 40 or whatever the hell he is now. running over to kata and getting pumped after that play...love seeing it. maybe it's just because we have a tradition of passionless baseball in this franchise, with sticks in the mud personality-wise like biggio, bagwell, and ausmus. it's refreshing to see though.
We still have to get through the heart of the order again to preserve this lead. Let's get it done and give Nathan the night off.
Plenty of players out there could learn a thing or two by the way Pence hustled down the line for what was a 99.9% out there. There's a reason he lead the league in infield hits last year (if I recall correctly)
We're not in last place for the first time in ages, at least for the moment. National League Central Team W L Pct GB Diff St. Louis 38 31 .551 - +28 Milwaukee 37 31 .544 ½ +11 Chicago 33 31 .516 2½ +8 Cincinnati 34 32 .515 2½ -4 Houston 31 35 .470 5½ -39 Pittsburgh 31 36 .463 6 0
Was out with the family for dinner and missed a great majority of the game. Got home for the bottom of the ninth and was relieved to see the lead of 6-5 with Valverde on the mound but got a bit worried when Crede hit that ball to right. Since it was the weekend, ended up catching the replay and was glad to see Bourn's homer. Him and Pence are having good years and with this effort, they're gon be real special, if not already. If only we had some better pitching to go along... I've been wanting the first suggestion to be in a play for the longest time. Just wish Coop had some regularity in his batting order as I truly believe would make the offense consistent.
