I just do not like his fielding well enough to declare him ready to be a starter. I think he should make the roster as the bench bat. he can play a few games at the corners in case of injury while Dubon plays up the middle for the same. Both are legit bench players, neither is a starter.
This team needs to transition on the cam Smith, dezenzo, Brendan Rodgers. Best shot. Stop sticking with same bullshit below average players in Chaz, Meyers and Dubon.
I like both as potential multi inning guys. 5th & 6th, maybe even the occasional 4th thru 6th. Still have not settled on that seventh inning guy.
First game I've been able to watch this Spring. A few impressions... - Cam Smith looked good hitting against a NYM SP and made a nice play in RF; his strikeout was on a couple of close pitches imo. - Okert looked good and should be a nice Lefty addition to BP. - Dezenzo had a nice 2 RBI hit and was safe at first on pickoff. - Luis Guillorme looks good. Excellent play at SS and nice piece of hitting as well. - Logan VanWey has an interesting delivery and was effective. - Pena and Yanier look like they're ready for the season.
I believe in Dezenzo’s bat, I think he deserves a chance to start. That means Altuve at second and him in left or him in right and McCormick on the bench. I think the ladder is the better option.
If ST matters, Smith, Dezenzo, Guillorme, VanWey, Contreras, and Okert have played their way onto the opening day roster. I don’t think ST matters but I still hope all those guys make it.
Probably will not be something that the front office considers, but Jake Meyers has a minor league option remaining and 3.044 years of service time, which means sending him down for a short period would net another year of service time. Here’s what an opening day MLB and AAA roster might look like if I were GM: MLB: 2B Altuve DH Alvarez 1B Walker 3B Paredes C Diaz RF Smith LF Dezenzo CF McCormick SS Pena Bench: Dubon, Caratini, Gamel, Guillorme Rotation: Framber, Brown, Arrighetti, Blanco, Wesneski Bullpen: Hader, Abreu, Scott, King, Montero, Contreras, Okert, VanWey 60-day IL: Javier, France, Trammell 10-day IL: McCullers, Garcia, Whitley, Ort, Dubin, Leon DFA: Singleton, Hummel Released: Rodgers, M Castro AAA: RF Melton CF Meyers* 2B Matthews 3B Whitcomb* LF Corona* 1B L Castro DH Hamilton C Salazar* SS Sacco Bench: Palma, Hudson, Bastidas, Short Rotation: Gusto*, Gordon*, Blubaugh, Ullola, Walter, A Brown, Fleury, Otto Bullpen: Beeks, Sousa*, Hernandez*, Tamarez, Gaither Inactive/Released: Weiman, Kouba, Lavastida
ST matters. ST games may not matter that much. It's the stuff they see in practice and the stuff they throw that matters most.
He is one of “those guys”… guys that know the baseball will end up in the stands where the ball is going in the stands as soon as the bat makes contact. Dude doesn’t even break out of the box, just nonchalantly watches and starts jogging to first…. Yordan does that too.
They don't have to waste a spot on Montero. He's fighting to make the team just like any other NRI since he is not on the 40-man. His leash will be short even if he does somehow make the team.
I think Cam starts in AAA, as much as I want to see him on day 1 in Houston I think its important to get hm some time with real pitching and not put any pressure on him.................personally, I think he is ready but I do not want to crush his confidence, call him up in May
I would DFA Singleton and ride with Dezenzo at this point. He can back up 1B plus has more positional versatility. Chas starts the season on DFA watch, if he falls flat out of the gate, DFA and bring up Cam.
