I think for guys like Singleton and Gamel, results in ST matter. ST means different things for different players. For locked in veterans, ST is to shake off rust and work on certain things. For fringe players they are trying to make the team, it's like how vets and UFA treat the preseason in the NFL.

I remember when Shane Reynolds got cut after ST and how surprised he was. I remember he said something like "I was working on this pitch and that pitch, if I knew my job was going to be on the line I would've pitched for outs."

Eh… pitchers, namely starting pitchers, aren’t going to do things they don’t feel they can do.

The Astros are going to have to pay him regardless. He’s also likely to get more hurt doing something he doesnt want to do (or has never done before)…. Not that he’s already 50/50 on that front regardless.

Here is a blurb about Brandon Walter from fangraphs last July:

“Walter was once arguably a top 100 prospect in that 2021-2022 window when his stuff was peaking, but his stuff has either been down or he’s been hurt for long stretches the last couple of years. He is currently on the IL with a shoulder injury.”

Seems like he might be an intriguing pitcher and based on his outing today he could be the 5th SP in AAA.

Altuve just whiffed on a hit to the left field wall. Mistimed his jump and resulted in a triple for the Cardinals.

I know it's spring training but Altuve and Alvarez are batting at Maldonado levels right now.

Astros B squad scored 8 runs and counting in 1st inning against the Marlins. Brendan Rodgers hit a 3 rbi double and Cesar Salazar hit a grand slam.

If he wants to make the roster, he'd better.

I'm actually thinking Rodgers is our best choice. Solid defender and we know he has potential to hit.

I agree, unless it's Smith at 3b and Paredes at 2b.

    I like Dezenzo in RF.

It's interesting to me that they are playing Chas in CF more.

If it was my decision, I’d start Rodgers at 2B, Chas in CF and Dezenzo in RF opening day. I’d give them 3-4 weeks and if they aren’t hitting I’d reassess.

We already know what we are going to get out of Meyers - great defense but a poor bat. He can take over for Chas or Dezenzo if they struggle hitting. If Rodgers struggles and Cam has hit well in AAA, call him up and move Paredes to 2B. Conversely, if Rodgers is hitting well but Chas and/or Dezenzo aren’t, Cam can play RF.
