Scoreless streak aside, or start of season coincidences aside... His last 6 starts have probably only been matched (in terms of a period of sheer dominance by an Astros starter) by Randy Johnson in 98, JV in 2017, or Cole's total FU to the league in 2019. He's likely for sure going to get AL POM and if he has a few more starts like this under his belt in May, those comparisons are going to start coming in "hot and heavy." (Seinfeld reference)
I was pretty young at the time, but I'm pretty sure Mike Scott had a great streak or two in 1986 as he was pretty great all season.
Spot on. So happy that we didn't trade him. I got the Seinfeld reference I can see both comparisons. I can see Roger Clemons too. I'd really like to lock him up. I know he's a Boras client but we've seemed to work well with him for the most part
Guess I should have dated it... or made it "post-scuff" era... or made it post steroid era (despite Randy Johnson's dominance in the height of the roiders).... Its just really enamoring to see him command all his pitches, have full confidence in them, and he does have a bit of a FU attitude that goes hand in hand with being just a dominant pitcher. Skenes also has it as he shoved this past weekend against the Dodgers. At one point he took the mound immediately after the 3rd out of the top of the inning... like sprinted out there... just locked in.
Astros 2-3 in these series so far, so no dice on my WS guarantee. Losing that series to the White Sox sucked.
